A cardiac arrest can strike anyone, anywhere, at any age, often without warning. It’s not the same as a heart attack, although both are medical emergencies.

⚡️Cardiac arrest is an "electrical" problem: the heart goes into an erratic rhythm, cannot pump blood and stops beating entirely.
💧A heart attack is a "plumbing" problem: the heart’s blood flow is slowed/ blocked, but the heart keeps beating.

If you see someone in cardiac arrest, don't wait for someone else to act. Call 9-1-1 and shout for an , start away and use an AED is soon as one is available.

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour Survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and reaffirm our Canadian Red Cross commitment to advancing truth, reconciliation, and cultural safety in our humanitarian work.

Today, we are sharing powerful artwork created by Anishinaabe artist and Canadian Red Cross staff member Danielle Robinson 🧡 ⬇️

Our Senior Director for Indigenous Relations, Shelley Cardinal, shares four actions you can take today:

1️⃣ Wear orange. An orange shirt has become a symbol of acknowledging National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It signifies the stripping away of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous Peoples.

2️⃣ Support local movements and events. In cities across Canada, and almost all Indigenous communities, there are public events marking this day.

3️⃣ Read the 94 calls to action. Seek to best understand the importance of reconciliation and the many solutions: https://brnw.ch/21wWdS8

4️⃣ Continue to learn and spread awareness. Review these resources to deepen your learning on this important day: https://brnw.ch/21wWdS7
