What did you do for tonight?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My partner and I got take-out from and hung out in the dark (while I managed a migraine.)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Did you have candles lighting up your home?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have you seen the local candles is selling? She's teamed up with , .dsgn and
to create beautiful candles, proceeds of which go 100% to supporting mental health services in our community .
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And while I'm here, I'll say that I don't expect earth hour will save us. We need big, sustainable changes, everywhere folks. And it's probably going to be hella inconvenient.

Are you going to check out the yoga show in Toronto this weekend?

I'll be there with the Shiatsu Therapy Society Friday 3-8pm and Saturday 10am- 3pm offering short, 20 minute shiatsu sessions on the floor or massage chair.

Stop by booth 934 to say hi or to relax with a shiatsu session from some of the most amazing, talented, and compassionate healers I know.

Shiatsu is ALWAYS gentle, but that doesn't mean that pressure is light.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Shiatsu pressure is unique because it is applied gradually, so without startling the body, pressure can slowly become very deep and remain tolerable.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I always tell my clients "if you're holding your breath, it's too much" I do my best to listen in to what the body is telling me and apply appropriate pressure, but you know you best, so if it's too much or you want more pressure, ask your shiatsu therpaist to use more!

How are you doing in that body of yours? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have you checked in recently? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I dare you to. If you're having trouble, try shiatsu as a fantastic way to assist in tuning into your body.

What have you been holding onto?
What have you wanted to change that you're not letting go of?
Do you know why?

I've been holding onto so many beliefs that make no sense and hold me back. I'm getting ready to make shifts, but change can be scary.

Change is scary. Change is good. If you're doing things that don't feel right for you, maybe it's time to let that go?

Sale alert!
Bolsters, yoga straps, meditation cushions... all 20% off until tonight.

In my shiatsu treatments, I'm big on making sure my clients are as comfortable as possible. Being able to fully relax your weight into the mat helps calm the nervous system, which promotes healing!

I've been using regular old pillows for too long, telling myself I'll one day get around to making my own bolsters (cause, I'm not busy enough as a self employed parent... right?)
All the while, coveting the gorgeous, comfy bolsters that many local yoga studios don.

It turns out,
is a LOCAL, family run business that makes these beauties I keep seeing around town.

And they're moving and having a 20% off sale until the end of the day!

Guys, I literally just spent 20 minutes trying to decide on fabric choices. So hard when I actually just want them all!

Are you still moving this winter?

It's cold, it's dark, and we should certainly be in hibernation mode.... but that doesn't mean we shouldn't stay active through the winter.

Exercise like yoga, pilates, Qigong, Tai Qi, walking, swimming and stretching are all great ways to keep our bodies healthy, limber and strong.

Traditional Chinese medicine would caution against too much vigorous activity in winter months, but too often we let go of all movement until spring time... leaving us extra stiff, and prone to injury.

I just got home from another class with . It was just the right amount of stretch and strength to keep me feeling great.

What movement are you doing this winter?

Shiatsu therapists study reflex areas in the Hara (the abdomen) and on the back.

The tissue qualities of tension, stringiness, weakness, sponginess, etc, and the energetic aspects of Kyo (empty) & Jitsu (full) help to give a picture of what the body needs and how best to support bringing you more balance.

Visual descriptions: shiatsu textbook opened on a desk to a page that shows the reflex areas ov the back of the torso.

Sometimes, can look like making yourself a healthy, delicious and nurturing breakfast.
I like to make a super quick and simple oatmeal in the morning but I indulge in all the nut butter, berries, h**p hearts and chia seeds I can get my hands on.

Winter is a time of year we should take extra care of our health and diet. It's the most yin time of year and we need to preserve our energy by resting more, and making sure our food is densly nutritious and warm!

Tonight, looks like going to bed before 9pm. It looks like finally stepping back from a very busy and emotional week to listen to my tired body and check out for a nice winters sleep.
We all too often stay up longer than we should, despite knowing we are tired. What keeps you from sleeping more this winter?

My Story

Shiatsu therapy is a unique, Japanese style of massage. Sustained pressure is applied through clothing with the palms, thumbs, elbows, and knees along the body. The pressure which is applied along acupuncture channels moves Ki (chi) and helps to bring the body’s energy into balance by moving it from where there’s too much (causing tension) and directing it to areas where there is not enough (causing weakness).

I graduated with honors from the Shiatsu School of Canada (SSC) located in Toronto, Ontario in 2009. I went on to practice Shiatsu in France for a few years before returning to Canada to open my practice in Canada. In May 2017 I opened my first Canadian practice in Hamilton, Ontario. And in September 2018 I created a tiny, beautiful space in my home where I now offer Shiatsu and cupping on Province Street North.
