Winter brings hidden hazards for pets. Cold temperatures can lead to hypothermia or frostbite, while common toxins like antifreeze, ice melt, road salt, and chemicals in melting snow or puddles can be dangerous if ingested. Thin ice on lakes and rivers also poses a serious risk.

Keep chemicals out of reach, wipe paws after walks, avoid frozen bodies of water, and contact your veterinarian if your pet shows unusual symptoms. A little prevention goes a long way ❄️🐾

Winter can be a challenging season in veterinary medicine. Higher caseloads, harsher conditions, and shorter days can take a real toll on RVTs and teams.

This is your reminder to check in with your staff, offer support, and create space for wellness. A small gesture can make a big difference in helping your RVTs feel valued, supported, and seen.

We’re proud to shine a spotlight on Manning Veterinary Clinic! 🩺💚

This mixed animal team cares for pets, livestock, and even elk while serving the Manning community. With a dedicated group of RVTs, support staff, and their travelling northern outreach, they’re committed to making every client feel supported and every visit run smoothly.

Their impact extends far beyond the clinic. From monthly trips to Hay River, NT to provide veterinary care to sled dog teams to providing complimentary care to pets of evacuees, this team shows what compassionate care looks like. And yes… their “Director of Marketing,” Earl the pug, is a local celebrity.

Cold weather can be tough on pets, especially seniors, puppies, and animals with short coats. Limit outdoor time during extreme temperatures and make sure they have a warm, dry place to rest indoors.

Ice, salt, and cold pavement can irritate or burn paw pads. Wipe paws after walks and use pet-friendly ice melt around your home to prevent injuries or accidental ingestion. Protective booties can also help keep paws comfortable.

A few small precautions can make winter safer and more comfortable for every pet. ❄️🐾
