Joy body. What does this mean?

This is a term I learned from my yoga teacher, Essentially, it is connecting and embodying your most pure, uninhabited, curious, naturally capable self that is unchanged by learning or shaping from others and/or our environment.

For example, think of how free you feel on a dance floor without worrying what others are thinking of you, or if your dance moves are silly or not. The joy body is about being child-like and doing what you love and what feels good in the moment. You see a puddle, and want to jump in, and don’t care about getting muddy... that is the framework of joy body.

Ok, yes everything had a consequence - that part is understood. This is mostly about doing things within reason with a very open, joyful, approachable way.

Tap into your joy body and connect with your curious, playful, uninhibited childhood self. Trust me, it’s good for your mind and your body.

Full moon energy. Do you feel it? How do you use it? Does it make you howl? Does it make you want to ground? Does it nourish you?

Tap into this power. We are now coming off a full moon, and it’s time to take note of what you need to release and anything that is blocking you.

Tune in. Turn in. Reflect.

Come to a comfortable seat or lay flat on your back.

Close down your eyes.

Melt further into your seat or onto the ground beneath you. Trust that you are supported, entirely. Sink further into this place.

Breathe. Slowly. Inhaling for an unhurried count of 4. At the top hold this breath ever so slightly for an equal count of 4. Release your breath through for a count of 4.

Continue to breathe here, steady and calmly. Observe how your body is feeling.

Imagine you are looking at your body from the inside out, beginning at the top of your head and moving slowly down to your neck, shoulders, belly, low back, pelvic floor, legs, all the way to the tips of your toes. Scan your body. What and how do you feel?

Big inhale. Send this in-breath to anywhere in your body that feels stagnant and / or blocker. Create and hold space for things that need to be processed and escorted out of the body on the out-breath.

Continue to be here and now, sinking deeply and wholeheartedly into the moment.

When you are ready to come out of this meditation, slowly turn to the left side of your body to fetal pose (if you were laying in your back) and take a few breaths here before you come to a comfortable seat.

Slowly rub the palms of you hands together and gently hover this warmth you’ve created over your closed eyes.

Notice how you feel. Observe the shift.

Set an intention that resonates and comes naturally. No overthinking needed.

Namaste.

When ready, flutter open your eyes, and carry this positive energy and high vibrations to you day

Take care of our planet. Mother Nature needs to be nourished and cared for, in turn we nourish ourselves.

Everything from sustainable farming practices to using less water when we brush our teeth or shower, to using less plastic. There are so many everyday shifts that we can make and I’m so proud of the generation behind us that inspires me to do better at honouring the environment more and speaking up about it - especially my niece Alice. I miss doing the dishes with her after family meals and admiring her conservative use of water amongst other things.

We all have the ability to do better every single day at treating the Earth with respect. At least there is one upsides to the covid-19 pandemic: it has proven to be a healing tonic for our planet.

When was the last time you gave yourself the permission to fully relax, undistracted?

I challenge you to put your phone away, sit comfortably and quietly listening the sounds around you. Forget your to do list, and abandon the need to get as much done with your “free” ten minutes. Just let it all go and sink into the present moment to truly relax.

Unclench your jaw. Let your shoulder blades melt down you back. Open your heart to the moment. Breathe deeply.

This is my reminder to self to slow down to speed up.

Relax and take it easy.

Stay hydrated with my go to coconut electrolyte drink as the temperature rises.

This is all you will need: to hydrate and balance your electrolytes:

Per 1L bottle of Zico coconut water (or any other brand, just make sure there is NO SUGAR added)
2 whole limes (or lemons)
5 ice cubes
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 tsp Maldon salt
1/3 cup whole pineapple
Blitz in a high-powered blender

Fun fact: this elixir was my birth plan with Wren. Well, okay, truthfully I had two non-negotiables on my birth plan: I wanted the bed at home made with fresh sheets (and house to be tidy/spotless) and this wellness potion.

Quiet down and tune in! By being less busy, you can feel what’s really going on. This is SO important!

“Do less, feel more” is something I need to intentionally connect with these days, since I’ve been on a go-go-go pace. It’s seems there is always “just one more thing” to do, and I notice that I don’t breathe as fully when I’m going from one task to the next, and im never fully allowing myself to relax and unwind.

Over the next few days (after I get some of my to do list checked off, hehe) I’m hoping to really do less, and observe how I’m feeling and what I’m really thinking, undistracted.

Are you taking time to do less and feel more from time to time? Get quiet so the real stuff can get loud.
