Motor Vehicle Accidents in Nova Scotia, What You Need To Know 🚗💥
Every auto insurance policy in Nova Scotia includes mandatory no-fault "Section B" benefits, which covers up to $50,000 in medical expenses and other potential losses, REGARDLESS of who was at fault.
Here’s what you need to know to get started with care:
▪️Treatment Protocols for common soft-tissue injuries like strains, sprains, and whiplash you can access treatment directly from a Chiropractor WITHOUT a medical doctor's referral. Your Chiropractor will bill the insurer directly for up to 21 sessions within 90 days of the accident under the standard protocols
▪️Documentation: Your Chiropractor will help coordinate and submit necessary forms, such as the Form NS-2 (Notice of Claim and Treatment Plan), to the insurer
▪️Proof of Loss Form: You must complete and submit a Proof of Loss Form (NS-1) to your insurance company, typically within 10 business days of the accident. You can find forms and more information on the official Government of Nova Scotia Finance website. If you need help with the NS-1 form, ask your Chiropractor to help you
▪️After Protocols: If your injuries are not minor or require treatment beyond the initial 21 sessions/90 days, coverage may still be available through your motor vehicle insurer, but you will need to use your private health insurance first
❗️Please note, you are free to see ANY Chiropractor or Physiotherapist for your MVA injuries, even if your insurance company has a “preferred provider” or suggests specific offices to attend
❗️It is advisable to have all occupants of the vehicle assessed following a MVA, even if they appear to be fine. Some injuries even though minor, can take 48-72 hours to become apparent or the trauma from the incident can be stored in less obvious ways
‼️ At Village Wellness we try to keep short term appointments available for MVA patients. When you call please let us know if you are seeking an assessment and care following an accident
‼️If you are already a current patient at Village Wellness and experience a motor vehicle accident, please get in touch right away and let us know. You will need some extra time for a new assessment and a more urgent appointment time
Winter weather is a big culprit for motor vehicle accidents, while we hope you always stay safe, we are here to help when you need it.
