Women’s physiology is unique in important ways.

🤍 Hormones influence ligament laxity and joint stability.
🤍 Pelvic structure changes biomechanics and load through the spine.
🤍 Muscle activation patterns and stabilization strategies can differ.

On top of that, women often carry a significant mental and emotional load—balancing careers, families, caregiving, and the invisible planning that keeps life moving.

That stress doesn’t just affect the mind. It affects the nervous system, muscle tension, recovery, and how the body adapts to physical demands.

The spine plays an important role in how the nervous system communicates with the rest of the body.

Chiropractic care focuses on supporting spinal function and nervous system regulation so the body can adapt, recover, and function at its best.

Today on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and adaptability of the women in our community. We’re grateful to support you in every stage of life 💗

There’s a reason so many people feel better after spending time in the garden. 🌱

Gardening isn’t just about growing flowers or vegetables—it’s actually a powerful way to support our nervous system and brain health 🌷👩🏻‍🌾🧠

When we garden, several really interesting things happen neurologically:

🌿 It regulates the nervous system.
Slow, repetitive movements like digging, planting, and weeding help shift the body out of a sympathetic “fight or flight” state and toward a parasympathetic “rest and restore” state. This helps reduce stress hormones like cortisol.

🧠 It stimulates the brain.
Gardening activates multiple sensory pathways—touch, smell, vision, and proprioception (your body’s awareness of where it is in space). Engaging these systems helps strengthen neural pathways and supports brain health.

☀️ Sunlight boosts mood chemistry.
Being outdoors exposes us to natural light, which helps regulate circadian rhythms and supports the production of serotonin and vitamin D—both important for mood and overall wellbeing.

🌼 Soil microbes may even improve mood.
Certain beneficial soil bacteria can stimulate serotonin production when we interact with them. It’s one reason gardening has been linked to reduced anxiety and depression in several studies.

❤️ It creates a sense of purpose and reward.
Watching something grow from seed to bloom provides small, consistent dopamine rewards that reinforce motivation and positive mood.

Just like movement, nutrition, and chiropractic care help support the body’s ability to function and heal, time in nature helps regulate the brain and nervous system. Another great reason to start thinking about planning your flower or vegetable garden for this Spring!

Sometimes the best therapy is sunshine, soil, and watching something grow. 🌿

Anterior Head Carriage: Why Your Head Position Matters — Especially for Growing Spines

Your adult head weighs about 10–12 pounds in neutral alignment.

But when it shifts forward, even slightly, the load on the cervical spine increases dramatically due to gravitational torque. What starts as 10–12 pounds can function like 30–60+ pounds of force on the lower cervical segments.

This is anterior head carriage — commonly seen with prolonged device use and “text neck” posture.

‼️When Your Head Translates Forward:
🔹The center of gravity shifts anteriorly
🔹Cervical extensors work overtime to keep the eyes level
🔹Deep neck flexors become inhibited
🔹Thoracic kyphosis (your curve in your upper bak) often increases
🔹Mechanical stress on discs, facet joints, and surrounding neural structures rises

Posture isn’t just cosmetic — it’s a load-management issue.

And in kids and teens, it matters even more.

A growing spine is still developing its curves, joint alignment, and neuromuscular control. Growth plates are active. Bone remodels in response to repetitive stress. When a child consistently adopts that “candy cane” posture over devices, the spine adapts to the position it lives in.

‼️Over time, this can contribute to:
🔹Early postural distortion patterns
🔹Increased strain on the developing cervical spine
🔹Muscle imbalance and reduced endurance
🔹 Headaches and neck tension at younger ages

This isn’t about perfection — it’s about teaching efficiency early.

Simple strategies like bringing devices to eye level, encouraging movement breaks, strengthening postural muscles, and reducing prolonged static flexion can make a meaningful difference.

Chiropractic care supports this process by restoring joint mobility, improving segmental motion, and reducing abnormal mechanical stress — while guiding families on posture and neuromuscular control.

The spine adapts to the loads placed on it.

Let’s make sure those loads are working for our kids — not against them.

POLYPHENOLS: Small Compounds, Big Impact 🫐🍫🥬

Polyphenols are naturally occurring plant compounds found in colourful fruits, vegetables, herbs, tea, coffee, cacao, and even olive oil. They’re part of what gives plants their colour, flavor, and protective properties — and when we consume them, we benefit too.

From a physiological standpoint, polyphenols act as:

🔸 Antioxidants – helping neutralize excess free radicals
🔸 Anti-inflammatory compounds – modulating inflammatory pathways
🔸 Gut-supportive nutrients – feeding beneficial bacteria and promoting microbial diversity
🔸 Vascular protectors – improving endothelial function and nitric oxide availability

Emerging research also shows they influence cell signaling, mitochondrial function, and even gene expression related to stress and recovery.

In a world where oxidative stress and chronic low-grade inflammation are common, polyphenols are one of the ways food directly supports resilience at a cellular level. In other words, they protect us in ways we do not have to think about, and they taste good doing it!
___________

How Do We Get Them? ➡️ Think Colour and Variety.

Some rich sources include:
🫐Berries (especially blueberries, raspberries, blackberries)
🥬 Dark leafy greens
🫒Extra virgin olive oil
🫖Green tea and black tea
☕️Coffee
🍫Dark chocolate (70%+ cacao)
🌿Herbs and spices like turmeric, oregano, and cloves
🍇Red and purple grapes

A simple guideline: aim to “eat the rainbow” regularly. The deeper and more vibrant the colour, the higher the polyphenol content tends to be.

Like many things in health, it’s not about a single superfood — it’s about consistent dietary patterns. Small daily inputs compound over time.

Food is information. And polyphenols are one of the ways plants communicate protection and balance to our bodies.

Isometric Exercises Are Very Powerful for “Tight” Muscles 💪🏻 It’s another way to experience relief in areas of tension, beyond more stretching.

When a muscle feels tight, the solution isn’t always more stretching. Often, that tightness is protective — your nervous system increasing tone because it perceives instability, weakness, or threat.

This is where isometric exercises come in.

An isometric contraction is when a muscle produces force WITHOUT CHANGING LENGTH (think: holding a wall sit or pressing your hand into a wall). While it looks simple, neurologically it’s doing something powerful.

Through mechanisms like proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) and autogenic inhibition, sustained isometric contractions stimulate the Golgi tendon organs — these are specialized receptors that monitor tension in our body. When appropriately activated, they signal the nervous system to decrease excessive muscle tone.

In other words:
Contract muscle → signal safety → allow relaxation.

Isometric Exercises also:
🔹 Improve joint stability
🔹 Enhance motor control
🔹 Increase tendon stiffness and load tolerance
🔹 Reduce pain through cortical and spinal modulation
🔹 Build strength in a joint-specific range

Instead of forcing a muscle to lengthen, we’re communicating with the nervous system — giving it a reason TO LET GO!

This is why in rehab and performance settings, you’ll often see isometrics used before mobility work. STABILITY creates MOBILITY.

If you’re constantly stretching something that won’t “loosen,” it may not need length — it may need strength and input.

As always, individualized assessment matters. But sometimes the most effective way to relax a tight muscle… is to gently make it work.

Your body is the one thing you carry with you through every season of life.

Careers change. Homes change. Priorities shift.
But your spine, your nervous system, your movement — they’re with you every single day.

Investing in your health isn’t indulgent… it’s foundational.

Chiropractic care is one piece of a well-rounded approach to wellness — supporting alignment, mobility, nervous system function, recovery, and resilience so you can show up fully for your family, your work, and the things you love. Having a Chiropractor on your team can become a consistent sounding board as your body changes, someone who knows your story and can offer insight and support in real time.

Private insurance can be a helpful tool as we seek private healthcare, but it shouldn’t be what dictates your care or the value you place on your long-term health.

Small, consistent care now pays dividends later.

If you’ve been meaning to prioritize your health, this is your nudge. 💙

Omega-3 fatty acids are one of the most researched supplements in the world — and for good reason 🐟💊

They play a key role in:
• Supporting a healthy inflammatory response
• Joint comfort & mobility
• Brain function & mood regulation
• Cardiovascular health
• Skin health
• Recovery for active bodies

As chiropractors, we often talk about movement, alignment, and tissue health — but what you put into your body matters just as much as how it moves.

🧠 Why Omega-3s Matter

The modern North American diet is typically high in omega-6 fats and low in omega-3s. This imbalance can promote a more inflammatory internal environment.

Omega-3s — specifically EPA and DHA — help balance that response. Less unnecessary inflammation = better recovery, better joint comfort, and healthier tissues overall.

For athletes, growing kids, and adults dealing with stiffness or chronic tension, this can make a meaningful difference.

🛒 What to Look For When Buying

Not all fish oil is created equal. Here’s what matters:

✔ High EPA + DHA content (not just “1,000 mg fish oil” — check the actual EPA/DHA amounts)
✔ Third-party tested for purity (look for certifications like IFOS)
✔ Triglyceride form (often better absorbed than ethyl ester form)
✔ Low oxidation (no strong fishy smell)
✔ Sourced from small, wild-caught fish (anchovies, sardines)

‼️Quality matters — cheap fish oil is often poorly absorbed or oxidized.

💊 How to Take It

• Take with food (preferably a meal containing fat)
• Consistency matters more than timing
• Typical general wellness dose: 1,000–2,000 mg combined EPA/DHA daily (children will be closer ro 500mg)
• Omega’s come in capsule form, liquid form and even gummies

‼️ Pro tip: If you notice fishy burps, try freezing your capsules or switching brands.

⚖️ Who Should Consider Omega-3?

• Active kids & teens
• Athletes in heavy training
• Adults with joint stiffness
• Those with limited fatty fish intake
• Anyone looking to support brain & heart health

As always, supplements should complement — not replace — whole foods. Fatty fish like salmon, sardines, and mackerel are excellent natural sources. Speak to your trusted healthcare provider for more individualized information.
