What do DNA sequencing and microscopy together reveal about nitrogen-fixing bacteria in compost extracts? Short answer: they’re present across well-made composts (~5% relative abundance by sequencing), but DNA percentages aren’t the same as biomass — so pair sequencing with microscopy or CFU counts. I had the pleasure of meeting Bob Reeves of today 2026. Ive been a proponent of Root Rescue for years because 1. Compost, tea and extract dont reproduce mycorrhizal fungi and Myc is needed for most plants, 2. Root Rescue contains 19 species of endo and ectomycorrhizal fungi (unlike other brands), enhancing the chance of getting the best microbial pairing for each plant and 3. It is an Ontario company - support local and lower shipping footprint. But now I can say Bob is a super nice and knowledgeable guy. I echo everything he says here.

I am now bringing my freshly made, biologically diverse and active compost teas/extracts to you! In an effort to grow my business slowly and stay eco-friendly, I am doing local, backpack-or watering can-operated (no noisy pumps) soil and foliar applications of my microscope-tested products. All ingredients are either certified organic or literally organic matter (made from my finest compost).
