Entrance is free but if you can please bring a donation for the Bobcaygeon Helps Food Bank

Each person will receive a free entry into the door prize of their choice supplied by vendors and our amazing Sponsors! Draws will happen after the event and you will be called on Sat and Sunday to arrange pick up.

♿ Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible (ramp at front entrance).
🐕‍🦺 Service Animals: Guide dogs and service animals welcome.

🚪Please use the front entrance doors to access the building.

💳 Payment methods will vary between vendors cash, e-transfer or Debit machine

Please bring a reusable bag for your purchases if you can. Some vendors may have bags available, but not all, and we want to make it easy for you to carry all your wonderful finds!

The most important thing to remember about the Cottage Garden Market is that it is still a growing event. Each year we continue to learn, expand, and build something special for our community.

Our goal is to create an event that people look forward to, a place where neighbors, families, gardeners, garden related makers, and farmers can come together to celebrate the joy of gardening and local creativity. The market is about much more than just seeds. It’s about discovering everything that can help you start your gardening adventure, learning what you can create in your garden no matter the size, and supporting local.

The Cottage Garden Market is truly a community event for all ages, and we are incredibly grateful for the support that helps it grow each year. We look forward to welcoming everyone and are excited to greet every person who walks through the doors.

There is hope! The solution is right beneath our feet. Work with nature. Recycling organic wastes turns death in to life. Compost your wastes! Build soil! Support organic and regenerative farms. Its a win-win as the benefits of restoring soil are multifaceted: healthier plants, healthier people, healthier planet. And its so easy, you can do it in your own backyard. Start small. Think local. Act global.

But our soils are in trouble. Organic matter and life im the soil is becoming depleted at a rapid rate. This results in infertile soils that cannot produce healthy plants. Increased runoff pollutes waterways, decreased nutrition in plants results in sick plants and sick people, and we are losing oir soils capacity to retain carbon and water.

Why is soil important? Not only does the vast majority of our food come from soil, but soil holds an immense amount of carbon, water, and microbes - in other words soil supports life. Without healthy soil, all life struggles to survive.

After a year of vermicomposting in an experimental tote, we are now ready to upgrade to a continuous flow system, where food is added on top and castings are harvested in the bottom. Im very pleased with the microbial quality of our fresh worm castings so far, and hope to produce enough castings to supplement our compost teas and extracts offerings (4 bins in total, thanks to Cheri !)

I have much to learn about vermicomposting still, but I look forward to taking care of more animals at on our homestead.

I tried a vermicompost bin in our house a few years ago and found it was overloaded with flies and abandoned the mission. Since June 2025 I started again. I like to keep the bin outside in the shade until temperatures dropped to around 15C, then brought them inside for the winter. I reduced the food volume, which reduces activity including the production of flies. It seems to be going well. Im ready to scale up in the spring and use this vermicompost in teas and extracts, and hopefully breed enough worms to add to my Johnson-Su Bioreactors.

What do DNA sequencing and microscopy together reveal about nitrogen-fixing bacteria in compost extracts? Short answer: they’re present across well-made composts (~5% relative abundance by sequencing), but DNA percentages aren’t the same as biomass — so pair sequencing with microscopy or CFU counts.
