What does seeing a community paramedic cost? FREE! If you require additional supplies there is a small fee to recover costs.

What services are offered? There is a wide variety of services that the p*p can provide and even more with the community paramadic endorsement.
1. Fall prevention and safety checks
2. Education on medication, new/existing diagnosis and disease process
3. Follow up care after hospital stays
4. Home physiotherapy guidance and assistance with prescribed plans
5. Patient navigator/advocate
6. Vital monitoring: blood pressure, blood glucose, pulse oximetry, pulse, respirations, temperature and 3 lead ECG
7. Would care and assessment: including would vacs and would packing with Dr. Orders
8. Wound closure using skin glue
9. Suture and staple removal
10. Ear exam, ear irrigation and foreign body removal
11. Central venous line access to administer fluids, flushing and dressing changes
12. Palliative care and support
13. Mental health support
14. Chronic disease management
15. Foley catheter care
16. Ostomy care

Meeting the face behind community paramedicine. Raylee Swarbrick was born and raised in Val Marie and is a certified primary care paramedic. She started in 2013 as an EMR, upgrating to a p*p and went back to Saskpolytech in Saskatoon and completed her Community Paramedic Advanced Certificate.

What is community paramedicine? Val Marie EMS is available to respond to 9-1-1 emergencies and that will remain our priority. In rural communities such as ours, where call volume is low, we are able to serve members of our community and surrounding area. Clients can be seen on a drop in basis, scheduled appointments or on a as needed basis.

We will be discussing services offered next.
