A little peek inside the Repattern workbook 👀

This is what participants are working through over 6 weeks, reflection prompts, education, and guided movement that supports rebuilding trust with your body (not pushing through it).

Repattern combines Pain Reprocessing Therapy with movement to help you find more ease, strength, and confidence again.

The current cohort kicked off Jan 21, and we’ll be sharing details for the next round soon.

The brain is capable of generating any physical sensation in any part of the body: pain in your back, your neck, your eyes, even your teeth.

Muscle pain, shooting pain, sharp pain, dull pain. Tightness, tingling, burning, numbness. If you’re experiencing an unpleasant sensation somewhere in your body, and your healthcare team has ruled out structural causes, it is quite possible that it’s neuroplastic (reminder neuroplastic refers to the way our brains pick up habits of pain).

Because all pain feels like it’s coming from the body, it can be difficult to distinguish between pain that’s structurally caused and pain that’s neuroplastic. All that we feel is pain in the body that is our only experience either way.

And yes, It is possible that pain that begins due to a structural issue, such as a sprained ankle, could eventually turn into neuroplastic pain.

Pain is complex, and everyone’s story is different.

A different kind of Valentine’s Day message 🤍

No fixing.
No forcing.
No “powering through.”

Just learning how to feel safer in your body and more at ease in your movement.
That’s the work we care about.

A really thoughtful in-service at .yvr with Jess Wilkie. Flowy, well-connected movement with a strong emphasis on breath, transitions, and equipment input. We always appreciate learning from other teachers and studios doing excellent work in our community.

Jess Wilkie is a certified Fletcher Pilates teacher and has been part of the Union Pilates team and community for over six years. As a dancer, Jess came to Pilates after years of chronic pain and discovered a practice that felt both empowering and transformative, offering the tools to move through life with greater confidence and ease.

As a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist, they integrate the receptive skills and holistic understanding of the body gained through their training to inform their teaching practice. Jess is grateful to build trusting relationships with their clients, encouraging them to explore movement with presence, curiosity, and play.

We happily recommend these folks for clients making a transition into the community from Clinical Pilates.

Ever wonder where Catherine’s deep love for movement comes from? Dance! 💃

She’s spent years on stage and behind the scenes creating choreography that tells a story. That same creativity now shapes how she helps her clients move, recover, and perform.

Our brains are always trying to answer one question:
“Am I safe, or am I in danger?”

These thinking patterns often develop for understandable reasons, they show up when we’ve lived through situations where our bodies didn’t feel safe.

Think if you had a severe accident and broken several ribs and it hurt to move, breathe, cough or lay on that side. You kept worrying that everytime you moved you were moving those broken ribs around.

We could become overly cautious, long after the ribs had healed. Over time, this could become our default way of relating to your body, being overly cautious.

Understanding these patterns doesn’t mean forcing them to change in a flash. It simply helps us see them more clearly and relate to them with more compassion.

Graded exposure isn’t about “trying harder,” it’s about taking small, supported steps to help your nervous system feel safe with movement.

Even tiny adjustments in pace, load, or range of motion can make a big difference over time, helping you build strength, confidence, and a sense of safety in your body.

The goal in treatment isn’t to eliminate every DIM in our lives, that’s impossible.

It’s figuring out how to change them slightly so the odds are in your favor so they aren’t so devastating to your system.

Small changes in your daily life can create meaningful changes in how your body experiences pain.

Sometimes our thoughts and beliefs shape how our brain interprets what’s happening in our body.
Thoughts like:

💙 “Something is seriously wrong with me.”

💙 “This pain means I’m damaging my body.”

💙 “I won’t be able to cope if this gets worse.”

💙 “My body isn’t a place I like to be.”

These types of thoughts can increase the sense of danger our brain perceives, and when the brain senses danger, pain can feel more intense or more persistent.

Over time, patterns like these can develop from life experiences where our brains and bodies learned to stay on high alert.

Those responses were protective at the time, they helped us get through what we were facing, but sometimes they continue long after the original threat has passed.

The goal isn’t to eliminate these thoughts or judge them. The first step is simply noticing them and understanding where they come from.

Recovery isn’t about pushing harder, better, faster, stronger, it’s about moving differently.

Repattern is a 6-week program combining Pain Reprocessing Therapy and guided movement to help you rebuild trust, strength, and ease. (And yes, you can still dance to Daft Punk when you are done).

Repattern kicked off Jan 21.

Stay tuned for the next cohort!
