A few ways you can get a better understanding of your exercise:
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ Figure out which muscles are meant to be the dominant focus for your exercise - if you donโ€™t know, ask your practitioner or give it a google.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป FEEL those muscles engaging, moving slowly and closing your eyes (if safe to do so) helps.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฟ Slower movements give us time to adjust and our bodies to recruit the appropriate muscles - itโ€™s also a sure fire way to get that good muscle burn ๐Ÿ”ฅ
๐Ÿ‘‰ Check in with your breathing - if we avoid holding our breath we have better blood flow/O2 to our muscles and we are relaxed making our movement more efficient.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ SEE what the muscles you are targeting look like, try google images. You can see where it is in the body and the muscle fiber directions which can help you visualise its activity during movement.
Get curious about your movement โœŒ๐Ÿฝ

Sometimes we have to go back to basics. If your pain or injury is not getting better, try looking at the fundamentals that keep our minds and bodies happy and healthy.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ Sleep - if you are aiming to get 8 hours then you need to be in bed 8.5-9 hours before you need to wake up to truly get a full 8 hours rest. If you struggle to get to sleep, look at your habits prior to getting to bed. Screen time? Caffeine? Stress?
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฟ Have you checked your water consumption? Remember if you drink coffee or other diuretics and these affect you - you may want to increase your water intake slightly to make up for the increase in bathroom breaks.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป How has your diet been lately? Have you been able to eat fruits/vegetables/less or non processed foods? Have you been able to prepare meals or is it mostly take out? If you need help in this area, consider making an appointment with a nutritionist or registered dietician.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Lastly, have you made time to move? Have you set aside 10-20mins or more to stretch, exercise, lift weights, do yoga or whatever it is that makes you feel good?
Try take an honest look at these areas, I donโ€™t suggest trying to work on them all at once but if you know thereโ€™s room to improve on your basics then start with one area and focus on it for a week or two and see how you feel. It might make a big difference to your recovery and pain management.

This goes for any exercise or focused movement but especially with rehab exercises.
If you donโ€™t know your intention, itโ€™s likely you are not getting the most out of your exercise and may even be continuing to reinforce old patterns that might keep you in a pain/injury cycle
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ Do you know what you are trying to achieve and the muscles you are trying to activate? If not, ask the qualified practitioner you are working with or if you donโ€™t have access to one do some googling. Thereโ€™s a lot of info out there on exercises.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฟ If you canโ€™t feel the muscles you are trying to activate, try slowing the movement down. Donโ€™t rush through a set.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Taking a breather, looking in the mirror and finding out what the muscle looks like and what it does in the body are all great ways to help you achieve your intention.
