Teeth grinding is a symptom of anxiety.

Waking up with a tight or sore jaw, or if the dentist recommends a night guard, it’s time to explore emotions.

Caring for our emotions is so important right now as many of us battle Covid fatigue and spikes in stress (buzz word of the week is ‘languishing’).

The more we pay attention to the signals our bodies give us about our emotional states, the better equipped we are to survive.

We avoid, ignore or numb feelings of anxiety because they are uncomfortable to experience.

But wait! Tuning into those physical sensations (e.g., quickly beating heart, butterflies in the stomach, etc.) actually helps calm them down.

The next time you are feeling anxious try writing down or saying out loud what the anxiety physically feels like. Use curiosity and compassion for yourself. Stay with the sensations, breathe, and they will decrease.
