Are you interested in learning how Post-Traumatic Growth is supported by Yoga Therapy Philosophy and Practices?

In this in-person workshop on the Sunshine Coast on May 2nd, we will look at what the Yoga Sutra-s say about identifying the symptoms of trauma/duḥkha (Ch I,31) and pathways towards post-traumatic growth and transformation (Ch I 32-39 and Ch II, 16 & 46-48).

Through discussion and practice, we’ll explore how Yoga Therapy practices can promote a regulated and flexible Autonomic Nervous System (ananta), gently inviting the release of past suffering (duḥkha) held in the body-mind continuum through transformative growth.

Merry Christmas and Happy 2026 Everyone!

Walter and I spent it in Vancouver with Walter‘s parents Barb and Emile, meeting up with us from Kelowna.

We have been staying at a dog friendly hotel in Cole Harbour, which also facilitates many wonderful dog walks in Stanley Park!

We have also been enjoying meeting up with friends and family for daily brunches, and fine dining in Vancouver in the evenings.

Having barrel saunas in your hotel is also a major treat as it certainly adds an element to a yoga practice that I don’t get at home on the Coast yet… I have to wait for Walter‘s retirement for that addition to our home!

Heading home to the Sunshine Coast today after much visiting and dog walking!

Today I received the BC Council on Admissions & Transfer (BCCAT)
Franklin Gelin Lifetime Achievement Award
https://www.bccat.ca/about/awards/2025-2/

It was an honour to meet Dr. Franklin Gelin, Executive Director Emeritus of BCCAT and to acknowledge the many colleagues who have helped the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) for Credit Movement in BC flourish over the past two decades including its pioneers Dr. Wendy Royal (KPU) Catherine Ostler (Capilano University), and Elizabeth West (Camosun College), and more recently my former cochairs of EAL Articulation, Gordana Sokic (Douglas College) and Marta Tejero (CNC).

I also acknowledged Capilano University colleagues, Dr. Brad Martin, Diana Twiss, Dean Jean Bennett, Rachelle Jorgenson, Milica Kovrlija Acimovic, Corey Muench as well so many others from across BC.

I especially thanked Mike Winsemann, the new interim Executive Director of BCCAT for helping make the systemic changes we had all been advocating for.

My heart is full and very grateful 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

What is it that compels us to “Return…to Where We Come From”?

I completed this book, as I returned to Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland to reconnect with friends and family of my childhood Motherland.

Though my adult home is on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia in the province where I spent my early childhood in Salmon Arm, the Maritimes is where I laid deep roots through the places and relationships I continue to tend.

Now “home” to my chosen family with Walter and Kuma 🥰 and so many dear friends from 30 years in BC!

My first post CapU retirement Yoga Therapy Retreat in Garden Bay with local and visiting students like long time student, Anita from Toronto! We focussed on Embodied Yoga practices that help us move from being triggered to Equanimity, Yoga Sutra I 33. Looking forward to more CE/PD offerings and collaborations with others like .mcallister.50 and in this new Freedom 55 chapter of my Yogi life!

Today, I moved out of my office at Capilano University in North Vancouver! I started working there 29 summers ago in 1996!

Tomorrow, I help host a delegation visiting from Kushiro Public University in Japan - last day on campus.

Moving towards my August 27th retirement party…looking at old photos to send to colleagues who are organizing it.

Closing doors 🚪 as I start to imagine new ones to open 🤩…

I am just back from Tokyo, Japan where I had funding from Capilano University and Aoyama Gakuin University (AGU) to deliver this interactive talk on Embodied Cognition, a field of study that embraces most of what interests me in life - it was super fun!

https://www.agu4u.org/2025/05/27/ie-program-plenary-talk-the-mind-body-continuum/

Walter came with me so we could enjoy the weekend bookends and evenings in Kyoto and Tokyo. He also helped me navigate all the subways and transportation, which is no small thing to do in Japan!

Highlights include biking Kyoto (no accidents!), 3 spa experiences to help us recover day by day, the Bamboo Forest (Arashiyama), hanging out with AGU faculty, Joseph Dias and Andrew Reimann, and visiting Kamakura & Enoshima Island.

The trip was super intense with me presenting to 12 groups of AGU students on a planned English language intensive program next summer at Capilano University’s Squamish campus. I was doing some research on the curriculum and getting feedback from around 200 students. Now I am revising the curriculum based on all of this incredible data!

I want to thank my husband, Walter for supporting me through this intensity, and Professor Joseph Dias for organizing every detail of my visit to Aoyama Gakuin University (AGU).

One week to go until I go on vacation before I retire on August 31 from Capilano University (CapU) after almost 30 years. It has been an amazing journey towards the finish line of my career as CapU faculty in the English for Academic Purposes Department. My heart is very full ❤️

Some photos from our 10-day trip to Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan!
