Yesterday was an incredible day at the Confederation Seniors Centre in Burnaby We were honoured to be part of the Burnaby Seniors Resource Society expo and speakers panel - a passionate group of professionals and volunteers dedicated to supporting seniors and their families while raising awareness of the many resources available in our community.
Thank you to the Confederation Seniors Centre for hosting such a meaningful and well-attended event. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect, educate, and support one another.
One of the most powerful moments came from sharing Mrs Smiths story - a true reflection of the impact of compassionate, consistent care.
When we first began supporting her, care started with simple companionship - just a few hours a week arranged by a close friend. It didn’t take long to see a meaningful improvement in her mood, engagement, and overall well-being, and those visits soon grew into daily support.
Living alone in Canada while her family remained in the UK, our care team became her primary source of connection and companionship. She built strong bonds with her caregivers and often shared how much their presence meant to her. With their encouragement, she began enjoying outings again - attending senior events and spending time outdoors.
As her needs evolved, so did her care. What began as companionship grew into 24-hour support, our team assisted with daily routines, coordinated appointments, and ensured she always felt safe, comfortable, and cared for - just like family.
One especially meaningful moment came when a treasured handmade keepsake was misplaced during home renovations. She was heartbroken. Not long after, a caregiver found it tucked away in storage. The joy on her face was immediate; she even FaceTimed a friend to share the moment.
It’s these small but powerful moments that remind us why we do what we do.
