Today, December 6, is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. It marks the anniversary of the 1989 Montreal massacre when 14 women were murdered because they were women. We hold space for their memory and for the countless people who continue to experience gender-based violence every day. This day exists because gender-based violence is still present in homes, workplaces, schools, relationships, and communities. It asks us to remember those we have lost and to recognise the ongoing impact on survivors and their families. It is also a call to action. Achieving a Canada free from gender-based violence requires each of us to learn, to educate our families and communities, to centre survivors voices in our decisions, to speak up when we witness harmful behaviours, and to challenge the attitudes that allow violence to persist. Change is not abstract. It is created through awareness, compassion, accountability, and collective effort. Today is a reminder that everyone has a role in building safety, dignity, and equity for all.

Today, December 3, is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. It is an important reminder of the work still needed to strengthen inclusion, accessibility, and equity in every part of society. As healthcare providers, advocates, and community partners, we share in the responsibility to help build spaces where everyone can participate fully and safely.

World AIDS Day is a reminder that health, equity, and compassion matter every day. This year’s theme calls on all of us to work toward a world where people living with HIV are supported, stigma is eliminated, and access to care is universal. Progress is possible when communities, providers, and systems come together.

The BCNA is the professional association for naturopathic physicians in BC.

At the BCNA, we make a meaningful difference in improving health care for British Columbians by working alongside our members to achieve quality patient care through engagement, collaboration, and naturopathic physician leadership.

Our goal is to promote a social, economic, and political climate in which members can provide the citizens of British Columbia with the highest standard of naturopathic health care, while achieving maximum professional satisfaction and fair primary care options.

With the help of our president and board, we help make sure the voices of naturopathic doctors are heard by government, health authorities, media, and the public. We pride ourselves on continuing to advocate for a fair health care system for all residents of British Columbia.

We are linked to the national naturopathic association, the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors. We support the annual national proactive health event, Naturopathic Medicine Week, during the first week of May.
