On the third day of our countdown, we have chosen something that everyone at OPAL is extremely proud of: Our LEED Gold Building certification ! For us to achieve this certification we had to attain all 7 environmental categories. By living at OPAL not only does your quality of life improve, but it also means you are a part of a global effort towards preserving our environment for generations to come!

Day 2 of (some of) our best OPAL 2021 moments we had to go with the most special celebration for a beautiful soul! Lillian Wilson’s 100th birthday celebration! Elegant jazz by , 100 gorgeous red roses from greenhouse, a delicious cake, and a customized cocktail artfully concocted in our Hummingbird Cafe. The only challenge with this party is how we will top it for next year’s birthday?! 🎉🎂🍸

🎄Deck the Halls with boughs of holly!

The OPAL Team got together to dress up our residence for the festive season! This year our theme is “Luxurious Lodge.” Starting with an “outdoor” bonfire, snowy blankets, shiny glittery deer, Christmas trees of various sizes and rows of snowy birch trees with LED lights.

We transformed our Bistro Library into a vintage holiday cabin complete with a rocking chair with pillow and faux fur blanket, guitar, a retro radio, wooden ski’s propped against the wall and Christmas stockings above the fireplace.

As we share our merry and festive holiday atmosphere with all of you, we hope you find some brightness in your day too!

Let’s discuss your bone health!

Did you know that 1 in 4 female and 1 in 8 male Canadians over the age of 50 have osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis is a bone disease with a low bone density which slows bone cell replacement. Due to the loss of minerals, the structure is weak and unable to take the normal weight. In our latest talk, Sam, one of our Recreation Assistants, introduced some simple changes in our daily lives that residents can make to prevent osteoporosis, such as diet supplements (calcium & Vitamin D), low impact physical activities, fall prevention and maintaining a proper posture.

You can find out how your bones are doing by getting a bone density test. Ask your doctor for one – it is an x-ray like test that helps with early detection of osteoporosis. This allows doctors to determine the strength of your bones and help put together a strengthening plan or a solution that prevents future deterioration and injuries. Prevention is simple and painless.
