It's time for naturopathic tip from Dr. Kathy Dang, ND, RAc!

We have all heard that before, but why and how does that really work?
A recent study shows that just 20 minutes a day in nature will reduce your stress hormone, cortisol, by 20%! It is really hard to come by ANY prescription that is FREE and works that fast!

Once a month I will be prescribing a free annual Parks pass to all of Canadaโ€™s great National Parks. Availability is limited.
So doctors orders, go in nature for 20-30 minutes a day, reduce that stress and improve the mood!

How to treat and prevent cold sores!

12/23/2021

Naturopathic Tip with Dr. Kathy Dang, ND, RAc!

Cue the sweet holiday treats and rich holiday mealsโ€ฆโ€ฆand the heartburn, bloating, gas and a few pounds gained.

Here is my naturopathic tip to get you through this seasonโ€™s digestion challenge.

Digestive enzymes gives your digestion a leg up to breaking down (1) proteins, (2) fats, and (3) carbohydrates. What to look in digestive enzymes depends on what your needs are. Most people do great on a general spectrum digestive enzyme that covers proteins, fats and carbohydrates.

Ingredients of a digestive enzyme and what they do, find one that covers your needs:
Animal-sourced:
-Pancreatin - Porcine source - amylase, lipase and protease to digest fats, proteins, sugars
-Pepsin - Porcine source - stomach enzyme that breaks down protein
-Ox bile - Important if gallbladder is removed to breakdown fats

Plant-sourced:
-Bromelain - helps breakdown protein and also reduces inflammation is needed to absorb calcium, magnesium potassium, copper and iron
lactoseotein and also reducing inflammation
-Papain - enzyme from papaya, breaks down protein
-amylase - breaks down carbohydrates
-protease - breaks down proteins
-lipase - breaks down fats
-Cellulase - breaks down cellulose in plants
-Lactase - breakse down lactose

Take your digestive enzyme at the beginning or middle of a meal.
Enjoy the holidays with confidence and easy digestion!

Tuesday Tip with Suzanne Williams, RAc: You have probably heard about a common acupressure point for headaches - the fleshy area between your thumb and index finger. While that's a great start, did you know that there are specific points you can press for headaches in different areas of your head?

For example, if you have a headache on the side of your head or behind your eye, try pressing and kneading the muscle of your hand between your ring finger and little finger. Find the sore spots and really knead until the soreness is gone. For best results, use the hand on the opposite side of your headache. Press away the pain and let us know how it goes!
