BC Cancer operates six regional cancer centres, providing assessment and diagnostic services, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and supportive care. BC Cancer works in partnership with communities to provide a network of chemotherapy clinics so patients can receive care closer to home. “I really honestly feel like I’m seen as a person when I’m at BC Cancer,” says Francesca, a patient partner at BC Cancer – Victoria.

“When I started treatment, I thought I would just be a number since there are so many British Columbians seeking care at BC Cancer, but it was the complete opposite. The staff got to know ME as a person. Now when I go in every few months for appointments, and see a nurse who was working during my chemo, they remember me and it's the best feeling!"

Francesca shares that one of the most important qualities for anyone considering joining BC Cancer is the mental strength to be a steady, grounding presence for patients.

Their message to future team members:

Dr. Abed has been at her role at BC Cancer for 3 years, following up with people with cancer undergoing radiation treatments. When asked about her experience these past few years, Dr. Abed claimed:

"I am very impressed by how dedicated our team is. It is such a comfortable and supportive environment... BC Cancer has the best positive work culture I have ever seen. It is inclusive, diverse, and equitable."

She adds: "I have fantastic lifestyle. My work life balance improved when I joined BC Cancer. I cycle every day to work, hiking and dragon boating after work and enjoy the fantastic weather."
