Congratulations to BC Diabetes T1D client, Cailyn Sinclair, on being recognized as a young changemaker in the Brighter Futures category in the Children First Canada The Future is NOW! Awards. She was one of 10 award winners from across Canada and the youngest by about 4 or 5 years.

She attended a full-day leadership workshop entitled "Be, Belong, Become: The Change Begins with Me" hosted by Sara Austin, Founder and CEO of Children First Canada and received her award at their gala.

Congrats on this wonderful achievement, Cailyn!

Dr. Elliott was at the BC Legislature in Victoria today meeting with the Minister of Health, the Hon. Josie Osborne. There were also deputies from the Health and Finance ministries in attendance. The meeting was regarding his advocacy, and their shared mission of improving lives for British Columbians living with diabetes. They talked at length about coverage, affordability, national pharmacare, and other subjects. Stay tuned!

Legendary! 🙌🙌

Before 1922, people with Type 1 diabetes had no hope of living. Fourteen-year-old Leonard Thompson was very sick and unconscious in a hospital in Toronto. His parents thought he would die. Then, Dr. Frederick Banting and Charles Best came with something new — a special medicine called insulin that had never been used on a person before.

The doctors gave Leonard the first injection carefully. After a few minutes, something amazing happened — his breathing became steady, and he slowly got stronger. For the first time ever, someone with diabetes could survive because of this new treatment.

Dr. Banting and his team didn’t want to make money from their discovery. They sold the insulin patent to the University of Toronto for only one dollar so that everyone could have access to it. Their kindness and hard work changed medical history and gave hope to millions of people around the world.
