Located near Vancouver General Hospital, BC Diabetes is dedicated to providing excellence in diabetes care, research and education to British Columbians. We offer all the services of a traditional diabetes centre and complement the care of your family physician. In addition, we offer rapid access to diabetes specialists, telephone appointments with doctors, certified diabetes educators, nurses, dietitians, access to fitness coaches, access to the latest diabetes interventions through clinical trials, specialized pharmacy services and an online patient portal. Our patient portal features the ability to view blood test results (within 48 hours for most tests), a personalized journal and secure Question & Answer with BC Diabetes staff with a response time of within 2 business days. To receive the services of BC Diabetes you must register and become a patient. With a physician referral all BC Diabetes services (except most podiatry services) will be provided at no charge through the Medical Services Plan of BC. Note all BC Diabetes optometrist partners waive any additional fees for diabetic eye examination. At BC Diabetes we work closely with your family physician. Being a patient at BC Diabetes does not prevent you from attending a regular diabetes centre or seeing another diabetes specialist. A huge day at BC Diabetes today! Match day for CaRMS!

Congratulations to BCD Case Managers Mitra Hosseininejad & Zaren Mabanta for being matched! Both will do residency and become fully licensed physicians in Canada.

Mitra was accepted into TMU for Family Medicine. Zaren was accepted into UBC for Internal Medicine!

We are always sad to lose such amazing staff, but over-the-moon delighted about their success. BC Diabetes is often a stepping stone. They are both going to give many years as amazing physicians, helping untold numbers of Canadians.

BC Diabetes Associate Medical Director, Dr. Dale Clayton, was in Victoria this morning for an important press conference with BC Minister of Health, Josie Osborne, regarding National Pharmacare coming to BC March 1st.

There will be enhanced coverage for biosimilar insulins, metformin, glyburide, gliclazide, dapagliflozin, empagliflozin/synjardy, saxagliptin, linagliptin and pioglitazone.

We congratulate the Minister, her team, and the government for getting this across the line as an important first step, and we'll continue advocating strongly for first-dollar coverage of CGMs, pumps, and GLP1s (Ozempic/Mounjaro).

BC Diabetes is horrified and saddened by the gut wrenching news out of Tumbler Ridge. We are grieving and sending our love to the whole community and in particular those who have lost loved ones.
