According to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, a healthy adult needs 21 to 38 grams of fibre a day. By making small changes in your diet, like switching from white bread to whole-wheat bread, you can easily increase your daily fibre intake.
There are two basic types of fibre: soluble and insoluble. Benefits of soluble fibre may include lowering cholesterol and controlling blood sugar levels. Insoluble fibre works to add bulk to stool, promoting regular bowel movements.
