Dizziness is a common issue, affecting about 20–30% of people. Sometimes, people feel dizzy even though there’s no injury or damage to their brain or nervous system.
One possible cause is cervicogenic dizziness, which comes from problems in the neck. This can be related to poor posture, limited neck movement, changes in blood flow, or problems with balance signals from the neck. People with cervicogenic dizziness may also have symptoms like neck pain, stiffness, headaches, blurry vision, ear fullness, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), or jaw (TMJ) problems.
How an Atlas Adjustment Might Help with Vertigo:
1) Neck Muscles and Balance
The small muscles at the base of your skull (called suboccipital muscles) help your body know where your head is. If the top bone in your neck (the atlas) is misaligned, these muscles can become irritated, which may confuse your body’s balance system and cause dizziness or vertigo.
2) Improved Blood Flow
The arteries in your neck bring blood to your brain. A misaligned atlas might affect blood flow, which can make dizziness worse. An adjustment may help improve this.
3) Better Posture
A misaligned atlas can disrupt your posture and create tension in your neck and shoulders. Fixing this alignment can improve posture and reduce pressure on the nerves and muscles, which may help relieve dizziness.
4) Support for the Balance System
The atlas is located near the inner ear, which helps control balance. While the adjustment doesn’t directly fix inner ear problems, improving neck alignment may support your body’s overall balance.
Atlas adjustments may help with vertigo by improving neck alignment, posture, blood flow, and potentially nerve signals - all of which can help your body feel more balanced.
