Pentland's Prosthetics & Orthotics Clinic has been serving the Province of British Columbia since 1954, providing clients with timely and efficient prosthetic and orthotic care. Services include clinical assessment of client needs, collaboration with doctors and other paramedical programs, manufacture of prosthetic & orthotic treatments and ongoing support and follow-up to ensure client safety and comfort. Pentland has four clinics in Vancouver, Surrey, Chilliwack and Prince George, we are passionate about providing the most appropriate prosthetic or orthotic treatment whether we use the newest in technology or tried and true techniques. Recently, our team had the joy of dispensing a bicycle-specific upper-limb prosthesis (TH level) for one of our clients. 🙌💪

We’re happy to share that we recently delivered two transradial prostheses to one of our clients 💪. Both are body-powered systems, designed to support functional, reliable day-to-day use.

In the photo, the prosthesis on the left is a voluntary-opening design, and the one on the right is a voluntary-closing design 🤲.

What’s the difference?
A voluntary-opening prosthesis opens the terminal device when the user applies tension through the harness; when tension is released, it naturally closes. This style is great for tasks that require quick, easy opening with less sustained effort ⚙️.

A voluntary-closing prosthesis works the opposite way, the device closes when the user applies tension and opens when the tension is released. This offers greater control over grip strength, which can help with holding objects securely ✨.

Our Vancouver and Surrey offices celebrated the holidays together last Friday with an afternoon of curling followed by a cozy dinner and games. 🎄🥌🍽️

It was great spending some relaxed time together outside the clinic. 🎉

We’re excited to share a recent delivery for our client, Wayne! ✨

Wayne was fit with a brand-new socket featuring a sleek carbon-fibre design, paired with a new foot and torsion adaptor that provides multi-directional control and torsion for smooth, natural ankle motion 🔄🚶‍♂️.

He’s already looking forward to getting back to hiking 🥾⛰️ and golfing 🏌️‍♂️ with his new leg, and we couldn’t be happier for him!

This custom left wrist disarticulation prosthesis was designed and crafted by our Pentland’s Vancouver team to help our client return to the activities they love, whether that’s holding a coffee, carrying a bag, or getting back into therapy with a physio ball 🏐☕👜

The natural colour finish was carefully matched to the client’s skin tone, creating a seamless and personalized look, while the hook-style terminal device offers precision and strength for everyday activities. ✨

This is a transradial prosthesis with a custom socket and a myoelectric hand. What makes it special? The hand responds to the user’s own muscle signals, allowing them to open and close their hand naturally. 🖐️💪

Myoelectric systems don’t just provide advanced technology; they give people back daily function and independence, whether it’s holding a cup, shaking a hand, or simply being able to grip and release when needed. 🤖🖐️

This week was extra special ✨ Our 9-year-old superstar got her new myoelectric arm! 🌈💫

We had so much fun together at the clinic:
🤲 Making a sweet heart with her Prosthetists, Dana and Melissa
🤝 Sharing a special handshake with mom
💖 And of course, her very own heart pose with her new myo arm!

With her new arm, she can hold things, wave, play, and even make little hearts 💖. That smile says it all ✨.
