World Kidney Day is just one week away!

This year’s theme, “Kidney Health for All: Caring for People, Protecting the Planet,” reminds us that kidney health isn’t just about our bodies—it’s connected to the world around us.

Did you know that air pollution, heat stress, and dehydration can increase the risk of kidney disease? And treatments for advanced kidney disease, like dialysis, can be resource-intensive. That’s why this World Kidney Day is calling for action that protects both people and the planet.

March is Kidney Health Month in Canada, and World Kidney Day is coming up on March 12.

Did you know that chronic kidney disease affects 1 in 10 people worldwide? Because it often develops without symptoms in the early stages, awareness and early detection are key to protecting kidney health.

This year’s World Kidney Day theme — “Kidney Health for All: Caring for People, Protecting the Planet” — highlights the importance of prevention, equity in care, and the connection between kidney health and our environment.

At the Can-SOLVE CKD Network, we bring together patients, researchers, health care providers, and interest holders to transform kidney research and care across Canada. Patients are at the centre of everything we do.

Follow along throughout March as we share kidney health facts, resources, and patient partner stories leading up to World Kidney Day.

5 insights from Black voices that should shape kidney care in Canada

Black people in Canada continue to face higher rates of kidney disease — often with delayed diagnosis and barriers to care. Together with the Black Health Alliance and The Kidney Foundation of Canada La Fondation canadienne du rein, Can-SOLVE CKD hosted a webinar series centred on protecting Black kidney health and uplifting lived experience in research.

In recognition of Black History Month, we’re highlighting five key takeaways from those conversations.
