The Kelty Foundation

The Kelty Foundation We are a non-profit foundation started in memory of Kelty Patrick Dennehy. The foundation was established in 2001 by Kerry and Ginny Dennehy.

Our goal is the prevention of depression related suicide in young people and to remove the negative stigma attached to mental health. After the loss of their son Kelty, the Dennehy's created this foundation not only to honour Kelty's life but to fund causes aimed at preventing depression-related suicide in other youth. To date, the Kelty Patrick Dennehy foundation has raised over $4 million dollars to fund causes related to youth mental health and suicide. Most noteably, the Mental Health Building at BC Children's Hospital, support for the establishment of a Chair in Depression Research at the UBC/VGH Centre of Excellence for Depression Research, and the The Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre. Understanding how we feel is an important part of mental wellbeing.

The How We Feel app helps children, youth, and caregivers build emotional awareness through simple daily check-ins and practical tools. It’s an easy way to notice emotions, start meaningful conversations, and support mental health in everyday life.

This FREE app was developed in collaboration with scientists, designers, and engineers, led by Pinterest co-founder Ben Silbermann and Professor Marc Brackett from the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence.

Meet Jolie Chorbajian, Registered Psychotherapist

With over 23 years of experience in the field of counselling psychology, Jolie Chorbajian brings a compassionate, client-centered approach to psychotherapy. Her professional foundation is rooted in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Early Childhood Development, Family Systems, and Individual and Educational Psychology. She is deeply committed to helping individuals identify, rethink, and rewire maladaptive strategies that no longer serve them.

Guided by the principles of compassionate curiosity and a deep belief that we should never underestimate human potential, Jolie’s work is both intentional and adaptive. She has had the privilege of working closely with various Indigenous communities and individuals who are neurodivergent, always striving to remain culturally sensitive and holistically attuned to each client’s lived experience.

Jolie’s practice is grounded in the belief that true therapeutic progress happens when clients are met exactly where they are, with respect, understanding, and an unwavering commitment to their growth.

Jolie is proud to be part of The Kelty Foundation’s Kind Mind team, contributing her expertise to initiatives focused on early mental health support, prevention, and building resilience in children, youth, and families.

Big feelings happen to everyone, especially kids.

The Unstoppable Unpoppable Thought Bubble is a heartfelt story about understanding emotions, sharing worries, and finding comfort one thought at a time. Written by Vancouver mother and daughter Rhonda and 9 year old Poppy Darch, and illustrated by Gilang Wahyu Setyawibawa, this book helps open meaningful conversations with children about how they feel.

Stories like this support emotional awareness and connection from an early age.
