The Kelty Foundation

The Kelty Foundation We are a non-profit foundation started in memory of Kelty Patrick Dennehy. The foundation was established in 2001 by Kerry and Ginny Dennehy.

Our goal is the prevention of depression related suicide in young people and to remove the negative stigma attached to mental health. After the loss of their son Kelty, the Dennehy's created this foundation not only to honour Kelty's life but to fund causes aimed at preventing depression-related suicide in other youth. To date, the Kelty Patrick Dennehy foundation has raised over $4 million dollars to fund causes related to youth mental health and suicide. Most noteably, the Mental Health Building at BC Children's Hospital, support for the establishment of a Chair in Depression Research at the UBC/VGH Centre of Excellence for Depression Research, and the The Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre. Psst… today is Pink Shirt Day!

A small act of kindness can make a big difference. Standing up, speaking out, and choosing empathy helps create spaces where kids feel safe, seen, and supported.

Let’s keep spreading kindness, today and every day.

One of the most meaningful parts of the Kind Mind Program is hearing from families about the impact it has beyond the classroom. A parent recently shared how her child became more engaged with his emotions through the program, sparking new conversations at home and a deeper sense of self-awareness. Reflections like these affirm the importance of creating space for emotional learning at a young age.

A meaningful step forward for youth mental health in BC. A newly donated building in downtown Vancouver will become a future home for Foundry, expanding access to integrated mental health, wellness, and substance use support for young people ages 12–24.

Foundry is a valued partner of the Kind Mind Program, and we’re proud to support their work by sharing Foundry sticker resources with intermediate students through our program kits. Partnerships like this help extend care, connection, and awareness beyond clinic walls and into everyday spaces where kids and youth learn and grow.

We’re encouraged to see continued investment in youth-centred mental health care and the communities that make this work possible.
