Therapeutics Initiative

Therapeutics Initiative Prescription drug therapy is a key element of medical care.

The UBC Therapeutics Initiative’s goal is for drug therapies to be used wisely in the best interests of patients, based on thorough & accurate understanding of scientific evidence. The Therapeutics Initiative (TI) was established in 1994 by the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics in cooperation with the Department of Family Practice at The University of British Columbia with its mission to provide physicians and pharmacists with up-to-date, evidence-based, practical information on prescription drug therapy. To reduce bias as much as possible the TI is an independent organization, separate from government, pharmaceutical industry and other vested interest groups. We strongly believe in the need for independent assessments of evidence on drug therapy to balance the drug industry sponsored information sources.

• Mieux comprendre pourquoi la prise de plusieurs médicaments peut parfois comporter des risques ;
• Écouter le témoignage de Laurent, un patient ayant vécu des effets indésirables dû à la prise de plusieurs médicaments, et découvrir comment il a pris les choses en main ;

📅 Mercredi 29 octobre, de 14 h à 15 h (HE)

Are you, or someone you care for, taking multiple medications?

This is common: in Canada, one in five adults take 3 or more medications. Two thirds of older adults take at least 5. Over time, some medications may no longer be needed or can do more harm than good. Asking about your medications is key to staying safe and informed.

For this year’s Canadian Patient Safety Week, taking place from October 27th to 31st, learn about the risks and benefits of taking multiple medications by joining Dr. McDonald and team for a free live webinar on October 29th, 2025:

💊 Taking multiple medications? 5 Questions to Ask
• Explore the risks and benefits of taking multiple medications,
• Hear a real-life story from a patient, Laurent, who experienced side effects, and how he took action to address these issues, and
• Learn how to start a conversation about your medications with a health care provider –get access to a free new tool to help!

📅 Wednesday, October 29th, from 12 to 1 p.m. ET
