*Using dowels for Schroth exercises*
Poles/dowels/sticks are really common in Schroth Method treatments, because they really help to position your arms and shoulders in a way that maximally helps with elongation and expansion.
Here are some ways to integrate dowels:
🔹Lying on your back or side, dowels can be pressed into the wall for muscle activation
🔹In sitting, dowels can support you to gain more elongation
🔹When you’re free standing (and maybe have resistance of the band), the dowels genteredsome stability and reference points for your body to stay centered
Overall, this arm placement helps to bring your shoulderblade into a more neutral position, and opens up those upper ribs (especially the ones in the arm pit area!) to help with breathing.
At The ScoliClinic, our dowels are 2m (7ft) long, which we got at a local hardware store.
If you’re doing Schroth, do you use dowels?
