If I were to have a favourite gland, the pineal gland just might be it.
The pineal gland is so named because it actually looks like a pine cone.
It is located deep in the centre of the brain between the right and left hemisphere. It’s primary physical function is the production of melatonin. Having said that, the function of the pineal gland on a physical level is still not entirely understood.
On an esoteric level? That is a completely different story.
Imagery of the pineal gland can be found throughout history and across cultures. In ancient Egypt, the pine cone atop the staff of Osiris is believed to represent the pineal gland. Likewise, the pine cone resting on the staff of Dionysus. The largest statue of a pine cone in the world sits in front of the Vatican and once sat on top of the Pantheon and was used as a fountain.
Our ancestors seemed to understand that the pineal gland was, in fact, our spiritual, or third, eye. It is a pathway from our physical to our metaphysical dimension.
Having a clear third eye improves our intuition, creativity, connection to our higher selves, love for ourselves and others…….
Often those of us who practice energy modalities begin to experience a pressure in the middle of our foreheads as our pineal glands become activated and our third eyes begin to open. This is common. It can also be uncomfortable.
There are many techniques that can be used to support your third eye. One of the most effective is to “breathe” through your third eye. This is done by allowing our inner eye to travel up to a point about three inches above the roof of your mouth, basically the centre of the brain. From here, visualize your breath moving out your forehead. As you inhale, breathe in through your forehead. Allow your face to be soft and the breath to move naturally. This technique takes some practice, but with time, works quickly and effectively.
Wishing you all the clearest of sight and the most peaceful of hearts.
