Here is a story from Sherin Benzon—Senior Content Strategist at ngx—that encapsulates exactly why we do what we do.

During a recent visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Light and Peace Museum, our team took a quiet moment to appreciate the work that went into creating the media experiences throughout the galleries. As we reached the Seeds of Tolerance interactive, we noticed two visitors watching with curiosity. A moment later, they stepped forward, inspired to try it themselves.

The mother, eager to participate, slowly approached the wall to touch the interactive flower bud, activating it into full bloom — the joy in her expression was unforgettable! She and her son then tried another interactive together, walking hand in hand to the wall as the flower opened for both of them. It was a small, beautiful moment.

When we mentioned that ngx developed the Museum’s media, their faces lit up. They shared how deeply the exhibits had moved them. The mother turned to us and said, “You brought so much joy to me with this experience. Thank you.”

Moments like this stay with us. They remind us that behind every prototype, revision, challenge, or late night, there is someone out there whose day is touched by what we create. This encounter was one of those rare reminders of the human impact of meaningful digital experiences.

We carry that with us, and it continues to inspire our work.

Favourite museum or attraction you’ve visited?
Planet Word in Washington, DC. It’s a really thoughtful museum about languages with innovative displays.

Museum or attraction you most want to visit?
When it opens, I'd love to go to teamLab Phenomena in Abu Dhabi. We’ve heard so much buzz about the work they’re doing. And it’s a big benchmark for how the industry envisions the cutting edge.

Given a healthy budget, what kind of attraction would you build?
I’d make a really cool miniature museum with immersive elements where you can move through the world with a little character.

How does your education cross over into your work?
My jobs have been in the field of creating cultural experiences and working with experiential technology in different capacities. A lot of live events—ballet, theatre, live music, festivals. Designing media, lighting, directing shows, technical director, production manager, and all sorts of lines blurred in between. My core skill is being able to think using both a technical and creative mindset.

What’s your favourite time during a project?
Kickoff. Because it’s important for us to be able to strategize. It’s the major touchpoint to bring in lessons learned from previous projects and evolve to be better and more efficient.

What do you like most about working in creative technology?
Its diversity of perspective and experience. The fabric of ngx is that everyone comes in from such a varied background. Those unique skillsets come together and work toward a cohesive whole.

What's something you’re looking forward to?
I'm excited to jump into my new role! It's a great move for myself to be able to leverage the experience we’re gaining from current projects to level up and be able to push the work forward.

In between long hours spent installing a new exhibit, members of ngx's team took a chance to visit a few sites around the UAE.

Yana (Senior Producer), Patrick (Head of Creative Technology), and Alex B (Technical Design Manager) had no lack of choices for places to check out in the dynamic cities of Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

On July 20th, Canada's Parks Day celebrates historic sites and parks across the country.

In 2020, we produced a series of interactive touch screens and animated exhibits for the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site—fortifications constructed in the 18th and 19th centuries that sit in the middle of the modern day city.

The immersive exhibits explore the history of Halifax and the Citadel through different cultural perspectives including the Mi’kmaq, Acadian, English, and French.

June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada. For our Flex Friday on June 28th, members of the ngx team are visiting museums and galleries to learn and reflect.

30 of us ventured to the newly reopened Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia, which had been closed for over a year to complete a seismic upgrade. Now reopened, it’s well worth it to !

Elsewhere, Calgary-based executive producer Jill Roberts went to the Meryl McMaster exhibit nikihci-âniskotâpân | bloodline at the Glenbow at The Edison. And interactive developer Himali Kothari visited the MacKenzie Art Gallery in Regina to see To Make Smoke by Audie Murray.

The Footprints in Time project is ready for launch!

For the past few years, ngx has been working on a dynamic and unique online exhibition with the Beaty Biodiversity Museum —a natural history museum with a collection of over 2 million specimens, based at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

Footprints in Time (https://footprintsintime.ca), developed with an investment by Digital Museums Canada, is a website that extends learning beyond the Beaty Museum’s physical Footprints in Time exhibition.

Working alongside the Beaty, ngx developed and designed the website to showcase the stunning and dynamic content created by the Beaty and its researchers. This includes 360° panoramas of fossil sites, photogrammetry, 3D dinosaur models and animations, footprint scans, field notes, and video interviews.

Footprints in Time provides young learners an opportunity to engage with paleontology through activities, lesson sheets, and quizzes that are embedded throughout.
