Fiddleheads!! 😋 Catch them before they're gone! If you are lucky enough to get your hands on these seasonal gems, be sure to grab them as fiddlehead season is very short and they disappear fast.

The key to health is to follow nature's cycles. Certain foods show up in abundance at certain times of the year with specific health benefits and then they're gone. It is important to eat seasonally as eating the same foods all year round leads to food intolerances, indigestion, inflammation and immune related issues. So instead of following popular trends eating avocado toast and cauliflower rice everyday which are available year round, add variety by catching some different seasonal foods that suddenly appear at your local market.

Fiddleheads boost immunity, lower cholesterol, are rich in iron and good for your eyes. In Chinese medicine, these little ferns are considered pungent and decongests the liver. A perfect spring cleansing food which is why they are available now 😊

Caution: Do not eat fiddleheads raw like other vegetables! They must be fully cooked to be edible. Eating raw or undercooked fiddleheads can cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps and headaches. To kill their natural toxins, fiddleheads can be steamed 10-12 minutes or boiled in generous amounts of water for 10-15 minutes and always discard the water. It is essential to cook fiddleheads prior to sautéing, frying or roasting. Enjoy!
