Welcome Jenna to the team! 👋🏃‍♀️

We’re excited to introduce Jenna (she/her) — a graduate of the Master of Physical Therapy / PhD program at Western University, where her research focused on inflammation in knee osteoarthritis.

Jenna grew up playing hockey (as a goalie) and rugby, until a significant leg injury sidelined her from competitive sport. She later found running as a source of stress relief and went on to compete on the Varsity Cross-Country and Track & Field teams at Western.

This experience sparked her passion for female athlete health throughout the lifespan and endurance athletes. Her clinical and research focus includes:
-Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs)
-Pelvic floor health
-Postpartum return to sport
-Running related injuries
-Knee injuries and osteoarthritis

Jenna is currently a postdoctoral fellow at UBC, where she continues to study knee injuries in females by combining her expertise in osteoarthritis and female athlete health.

Clinically, she completed a sport physiotherapy + postdoctoral fellowship at Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic, where she worked as the primary physiotherapist for varsity endurance teams (cross country, track & field, rowing, swimming, and cheerleading). She also practices pelvic floor physiotherapy and enjoys working with individuals of all backgrounds and activity levels.

Outside the clinic (and the lab!), you can find Jenna training and competing in national-level cross country, track & field, and road races, or out cycling and hiking.

Here Jenna demonstrates one of her favourite exercises for knee strength and control: the Elevated Step Down.

Book with Jenna at our Chan Gunn clinic!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

🙌 We are excited to welcome Patrick Payne, our newest chiropractor, to the NSWC clinic team! After spending the past three years in Australia working in private practice and providing on-field chiropractic care, Patrick (he/him) has returned home to North Vancouver.

Patrick completed his Bachelor of Kinesiology at UBC before earning his Master of Chiropractic at Macquarie University in Sydney. A lifelong NSWC member, he grew up playing hockey at the Club before moving on to play Junior B for the North Van Wolfpack.

Now back in the community, Patrick looks forward to lacing up with the NSWC senior men’s league while also supporting local athletes and sporting events. He brings with him a passion for performance, rehab, and injury prevention — and is excited to contribute both on and off the ice. Patrick focuses on musculoskeletal conditions, primarily soft tissue injuries and joint dysfunction. Patrick has a keen interest in lower back pain and hip conditions.

➡️ Book with Patrick at the North Shore Winter Club.

💥Stay tuned for an upcoming blog post by Patrick on low back pain. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

TFCC injury with White Tape or Leuko Tape:

This tape job is great for stabilizing the wrist / TFCC complex during twisting motions and loaded wrist positions.

* Start by ripping a few strips of tape. The length should be able to wrap around their forearm.
* Place the tape on the distal ulnar, with the hand in a pronated position (palm down).
* With your thumb apply a downward pressure on the ulna while counter pressuring the first carpal row with your index finger.
* As you apply this glide, wrap the tape around the forearm and place it down.
* You can repeat this 2-3 times as needed.
* Lastly, apply a strip of tape in the opposite direction just to secure the tape down. You can also wrap this with stretch tape to make it extra secure.
* ‼️Check blood flow (capillary refill) and make sure no numbness or change of colour in the hand. Re-assess for pain and range, mainly into supination. Monitor for any signs of skin irritation related to the tape.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

🌟 Mentorship Night: The Shoulder with Heather

We’re excited to launch our new Mentorship Program with an evening dedicated to the shoulder, led by physiotherapist Heather Keep! 🙌 This is the first of many mentorship nights to come.

Our program is designed to support new AMSMC clinicians through:
✨ Ongoing 1-on-1 mentorship
✨ Shadowing opportunities
✨ Monthly mentorship nights

🌱 The goal? To ensure every clinician feels supported, included, and set up for success. It is to support growth and clinical excellence, create leadership opportunities, and a culture of collaboration + lifelong learning.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

We’re excited to welcome Natalie Abbate to our Yaletown team! 🎉

Natalie (she/her) joins us fresh off completing a Sport Physiotherapy Fellowship at the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic — bringing with her a wealth of experience working with varsity athletes (mostly with rugby, basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, baseball, ultimate, etc).

Originally from Toronto, Ontario, Natalie completed both her Bachelor of Kinesiology and Master of Physical Therapy at Western University, where she also competed with the varsity soccer team ⚽. Her passion for sport and movement has fueled her work with a wide range of athletic teams, and she’s currently pursuing her Sport Physiotherapy Canada (SPC) Certificate.

*Bonus: Natalie’s already sharing some of her on-field expertise with us! 📹 Stay tuned for a couple wrist taping demos. Plus, in the photo Natalie demonstrates an excellent strengthening exercise for wrists, called bottoms-up kettlebell carries.

👉 Book an appointment with Natalie at our Yaletown location today!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
