I love finding medicine while out walking or hiking. A little Usnea barbata reminding us of the healing power of nature - usually part of antimicrobial blends and an often used herb as we head into cold and flu season

Return to practice 🩺

Just a little note to share that I will be returning to part time practice in September.

It's been a whirlwind few months of enjoying my little babe, and so often forgetting to water my garden that only the lavender and sweet peas really survived!

Wishing to all some lovely summer days as we enter the lazy and hazy last few weeks of August, and I very much looking forward to connecting soon 🌸

As this year comes to a close, I am reflecting on the many gifts for growth that 2023 offered both personally and professionally. It was a big year as I took a more active leadership role professionally as well as continued to nurture my naturopathic practice.

I am grateful to all my patients who trusted me with their health and invited me to journey with them this past year. As well, a thank-you to my colleagues and friends who have supported me as I was ushered into the leadership of our association.

Wishing you all a happy new year, and a may 2024 be a year of joy, health, and connection.

Hydrotherapy is a little different in these waters... I'll be taking a bit of time away from the office to soak up the sun with my family.

Wishing you all a joyful, healthy, and safe holiday season 🌺

Wishing you all a happy thanksgiving🍂
I seek to live each day with a heart of gratitude. And I find myself learning much from my patients who share with me their gratitude for aspects of life many of us take for granted. My appreciation for seemingly insignificant blessings in life continues to deepen. So today I am grateful for strong legs to hike, eyes to read, ears to enjoy music, and for the energy to make it happen

Exercise intolerance after a concussion 🧠

This question comes up a lot during my conversations with patients. They come in sharing they are unable to cycle or run without symptoms nausea, dizziness, headaches

This is not unusual. The common assessment tool is the Buffalo Treadmill Test. This guages at what heart rate they become symptomatic. Understanding this allows patients to exercise with a new target heart rate. It's important information as many patients will avoid exercise for fear of exacerbating symptoms. For patients unable to use a treadmill for various reasons, the starionary bike can be a good alternative

This is not a diagnostic tool, but a very helpful assessment for supporting patients in their concussion recovery

Hello everyone, it's been a while since I have shared on this platform, and i thoughts it time to re-introduce myself as I start creating content again

I practice as a naturopathic doctor in Vancouver, BC. In that sphere, I support people with concussions and neurological illness/injury,
reproductive and autoimmune conditions

Outside of the office I am usually found outdoors on my bike, hiking, skiing, or sailing, or 'diving' into current research. I love to learn, whether it's enhancing my clinical skills or refining my sailing techniques

Thankyou for taking the time to read my posts. I strive to find the balance between inviting you into my life outside the clinic, and sharing information to support the healing journeys so many of you are on

Flying with a concussion// I recently got to take a float plane and for me it felt like an exciting adventure.

However, for many individuals with and post-concussion syndrome this flight would not be as easily tolerated. Flying can be a major trigger for aggravating symptoms. The intense sensory stimulation (auditory, visual) associated with flying can trigger migraines, nausea, dizziness/vertigo, anxiety, and can elicit a symptom flare that can be difficult to recover from. The fatigue associated with travel can also aggravate symptoms.

Ear protection /noise cancelling ear ware, ensuring adequate sleep prior to travel, having a stash of snacks and electrolyte tablets, remembering prescription glasses or wearing tinted lens are all important when flying for individuals with PCS. My patients will often come in for an IV nutrient drip prior to travel and have a couple supportive supplements on hand too. Compression (torso or extremities) is especially helpful for anyone with associated and

If you are struggling with a concussion or know someone who is and find travel frustrating, I encourage you to take time to be patient and compassionate. This is a complex injury and it takes courage and energy to step into new or demanding situations like travel.
