Our community panel addressed the critical and unique role that community health centres (CHCs) play in Canada’s healthcare system. Through this timely panel discussion led by REACH Community Health Centre’s Executive Director - Melinda Markey, panelists highlighted how CHCs reduce barriers, build trust, and advance equity through team-based, community-governed care.

At REACH, this vision comes to life under one roof, where primary care, dental, pharmacy, counselling and community programs work together to support the whole person and strengthen community well-being.

Please share with your networks to help amplify awareness of the Cooperation and Responsible Government Accord 2025 (CARGA) policy window, a critical opportunity to secure stable, core funding for CHCs across BC!

REACH invited MLA Niki Sharma to join us for the CHC Open Door Campaign at our Community Health Centre. This province-wide initiative, led by the British Columbia Association of Community Health Centres (BCACHC), highlights our important role in health care and supports engagement with local stakeholders.

We discussed the importance of Community Health Centres and their centrality to the Cooperation and Responsible Government Accord (CARGA) between the NDP and Green Party. There was further discussion around the team-based care model, the importance of community-based counselling and addressing the social determinants of health, as well as challenges we face in primary care.

Thank you to MLA Niki Sharma and BCACHC for impactful opportunities to learn more and advocate for CHCs like REACH!

P.S. Can you identify who our Executive Director dressed up as for Halloween?

October is recognized as National Latin-American Heritage Month, a great time to acknowledge and honour the diversity and contribution of our important Latin-American population in Canada, which totals approximately half a million people!

At REACH, we celebrate our three cultural groups: Latin American Women’s Group (Mujeres en Accion), Tertulias Latin-American Group and Latin-American Seniors Group who connect weekly to preserve cultural practices, learn about health resources and foster social connection. Thank you to our Cross-Cultural Health Promoters for keeping these supportive spaces and groups thriving, and happy Latin-American Heritage Month!
