At REACH we know that delivering truly safe, respectful care means doing the deeper work of learning, unlearning, and building relationships in a different way. That’s why we recently offered a Two-Eyed Seeing workshop by Len Pierre Consulting (LPC) that was incredibly insightful, well designed and left lasting impressions on our team.

One of our team members shared: ‘Something that stayed with me is the past and present impacts of settler-colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and the need to actively work towards ongoing self-education, reflection, and communication.’

This workshop was extremely valuable in supporting us to take individual and team measures towards decolonization and reconciliation. Additionally, learning Indigenous perspectives and ways of knowing are enriching from both a personal and health care lens.

This Oral Health Month, we want to make sure everyone in our community knows about the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), designed to help people who don't have dental coverage access the care they deserve.

If you have a family net income under $90,000, a filed tax return, and no private dental insurance, make sure to apply or renew!

We are still on a high after our Spring into Care event at Britannia Community Services Centre with Vancouver Women's Health Collective and BC Cancer Screening and Prevention. Between the massages from Langara’s Registered Massage Therapy program, henna application, mural painting, cervix self-screening kits and the incredible information shared on women’s health, it was an empowering and fun-filled time spent in community!

Raycam Cooperative Centre hosted a warm, well-resourced community fair that brought together some incredible organizations and people for health access and well-being resources. We enjoyed connecting with community members and partners and hearing your thoughts in response to our questions around gaps and needs in community health care.

Our Arabic Women’s Support group joined the 35th Women's Memorial March in Vancouver East side, to honour missing and murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-spirit people, and to demand justice.

This powerful event was well attended and reinforced the importance of our Violence Prevention program’s continued focus on safety, solidarity, and empowerment. Thank you to everyone who came together to support.

Our Pharmacy team continue to shine brightly this Pharmacy Appreciation Month! They are known to be friendly, professional and go above and beyond to help community members access the medication, vaccines and coverage they need. We celebrate them for good reason and appreciate the work they do to support the health of our patients and community 👏

Part of what makes REACH Dental so vital in our community is our ability to care for patients with low incomes, newcomers, seniors, and people who often fall through the gaps in existing public dental programs. We do this through a blend of public funding and clinic revenue, allowing us to keep care accessible for those who need it most.

Sadly, the Province recently confirmed that it will not renew the critical grant that supports BC’s not-for-profit dental clinics, despite clear evidence that stable funding prevents suffering and reduces pressure on emergency rooms.

This will affect patients who rely on public benefits programs, have limited ability to pay, or face other barriers to accessing private dental care. We want to ensure that we can still provide care to those who need it the most, while reducing the demand and stress on other healthcare services that will inevitably become more strained.

This article highlights the broader system impacts. Please consider sharing it with your networks and MLAs as we work to uphold our commitment to accessible, community-based care.
