Remembrance Day in Canada is observed annually on November 11 to honour the sacrifices of all who have served and died in the nation's defense. It commemorates the end of World War I hostilities and is a day for Canadians to pause and remember those who have fought in past and present conflicts. Key traditions include wearing a poppy, which symbolizes the soldiers who died in war, and observing two minutes of silence at 11 a.m. to mark the time the armistice was signed in 1918.

The history of the celebration now called Thanksgiving dates back thousands of years. Indigenous people living in what is now Canada have long had a tradition of celebrating a successful harvest in the fall in addition to other seasonal festivities. Harvest celebrations often included large gatherings and feasts as well as rituals and dances. The earliest known Thanksgiving celebration hosted by settlers in Canada took place in 1578.
