As Canada braces for a dramatic rise in dementia cases by 2050, researchers at Simon Fraser University, including Advancing Health's Dr. Habib Chaudhury are turning to an unconventional solution rooted in nature and community.

A pilot care village in Surrey, Langley, is designed to look at "the cultural background, life history, celebrating that, preferences, choices, autonomy, dignity." Dr. Chaudhury said, "It's really taking a holistic perspective.”

A study led by Advancing Health and Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute researcher Dr. Christopher Fordyce introduced the EARLY SHOCK risk scoring algorithm, a novel approach to detect the signs and symptoms of cardiogenic shock.

In the first half of this year, over 400 cases of syphilis were documented in BC. This highlights how sexually transmitted and blood born diseases (STBBIs), including hepatitis and HIV continue to contribute serious healthcare challenges in Canada.

Through his role with the CIHR Pan-Canadian Network for HIV and STBBI Clinical Trials Research (CTN+), Advancing Health scientist Dr. Naveed Janjua is making strides in improving BC's research capacity through project STRIVE.
