| Challenges and barriers in assisting palliative care: A literature review — Shafiq Ur Rahman, Salma Rattani, Salima Shams, Dilshad Begum

This review highlights how cultural differences, limited education, inadequate resources, and systemic constraints continue to delay or prevent access to palliative care for many patients. The findings reinforce the urgent need for culturally responsive and resource-appropriate palliative care frameworks.

It’s ! This week we’re spotlighting a CONJ study:

"Effect of an educational intervention on adherence to hand hygiene among patients undergoing chemotherapy: A quasi-experimental study" from authors Shenia Aminpanah, Kaveh Bahmanpour, Bijan Nouri, Sina Valiee.

The intervention group showed major improvements in perception, performance, and overall adherence—though infection rates remained the same between groups.

The study supports implementing multifaceted strategies to strengthen patient hand-washing behaviour in oncology care.

"Effet d’une intervention éducative sur l’adhésion à l’hygiène des mains chez les patients recevant une chimiothérapie : une étude quasi expérimentale" par Shenia Aminpanah, Kaveh Bahmanpour, Bijan Nouri et Sina Valiee.

Le groupe d’intervention a montré des améliorations importantes de la perception, de la performance et de l’adhésion globale — mais sans changement dans les taux d’infection.

It’s — spotlighting a compelling article from the latest issue of the Canadian Oncology Nursing Journal.

In “Clinical judgment during the nursing process in oncology care: An almost experimental study”, researchers found that an educational intervention in a high-complexity cancer care setting led to meaningful improvements in oncology nurses’ clinical judgment—especially in data prioritization, sense-making of patient information, flexible intervention planning, self-analysis/reflection and a deepened commitment to quality improvement.

For oncology nursing practice and leadership, this study offers actionable insights.

C’est le — mise en lumière d’un article marquant du plus récent numéro de la R***e canadienne de soins infirmiers en oncologie. Dans « Jugement clinique lors du processus infirmier en soins oncologiques : une étude quasi-expérimentale », les chercheuses et chercheurs ont constaté qu’une intervention éducative en milieu de soins oncologiques à haute complexité a entraîné des améliorations significatives du jugement clinique des infirmières — notamment en matière de priorisation des données, de compréhension des informations patient, de planification d’interventions flexibles, d’auto-analyse/réflexion et d’engagement accru envers l’amélioration de la qualité.

Pour la pratique infirmière en oncologie et le leadership en soins, cette étude apporte des enseignements concrets.

C’est le Vendredi En Vedette! Aujourd’hui, nous mettons en lumière un article marquant du plus récent numéro du Journal canadien de soins infirmiers en oncologie (CONJ).

Cet article présente les résultats de la toute première réunion internationale d’experts en science des symptômes du cancer, réunissant des scientifiques infirmiers de partout dans le monde pour définir des priorités visant à améliorer la gestion des symptômes et les résultats pour les patients.

Les recommandations incluent un ensemble minimal de données commun, de meilleures stratégies de mise en œuvre, et le lancement de l’alliance mondiale GRASS.
