Today on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the women advancing arthritis research.

Women are at a higher risk of getting arthritis than men. That’s why it matters that so many of our scientists and trainees are women who ask the research questions that shape better care.

We're celebrating the women in our community who are scientists, clinicians, trainees, and patient partners as they work to improve the lives of millions living with arthritis. Learn more about our research and the people behind it: https://www.arthritisresearch.ca/current-research/

We're springing forward by an hour this weekend. Don't forget to adjust your clocks!

When we set our clocks ahead, our bodies can feel the shift too. For people living with arthritis, even a one-hour change in sleep patterns can affect how symptoms like pain and fatigue feel. We’re studying how lifestyle factors like sleep influence arthritis symptoms.

How does the time change affect your arthritis symptoms? Let us know in the comments.

At just two years old, Lauren was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis. She had to learn how to manage her condition through movement, nutrition, and resilience. From competitive swimming to training for a 100-mile relay, she shows how staying active and mindful of her body can make a real difference.

Today is World Obesity Day, which reminds us that weight and arthritis are closely connected.

It is common for people with arthritis to have difficulties managing their weight. Arthritis can affect energy levels, mood, sleep, ability to move, as well as habits such as grocery shopping, preparing healthy meals and exercising. Medications used to treat inflammation, such as prednisone, can also cause weight gain.

Our scientists and trainees like Dr. Derin Karacabeyli are conducting research to help people manage weight challenges and lead healthy lives. Learn more about this research and the relationship between arthritis and weight: https://ow.ly/YNX650YnksS

February 28 is Rare Disease Day, which raises awareness for the 300 million people worldwide living with a rare disease.

Our scientists are advancing research into rare and complex autoimmune diseases like antisynthetase syndrome and scleroderma. We aim to improve understanding of rare and complex diseases, and snure patient voices help guide research on better care.

Have you or someone you love been affected by a rare disease? What do you wish more people understood? We'd love to hear more in the comments.

What if the first sign of osteoporosis wasn’t a broken bone?
Osteoporosis, a medical condition that leads to an increased risk of bone fracture, affects over 2.3 million Canadians. It's often called the silent disease, because many people don't know they have it until they break a bone.

At Arthritis Research Canada, Drs. Raheem Kherani and Carrie Ye are working to understand fracture risks and improve the quality of osteoporosis diagnosis and care. Learn more: https://ow.ly/PS8M50Yj8jv
