Turns out I wasn’t addressing the root cause

I remember having this conversation with some girlfriends a few years back on a hike, feeling so confused, helpless honestly.

Because I was doing all of the things
and still holding onto weight that I hadn’t before

and the wild part?
this was also the time I was actually starting to love myself and my body

A lot of food sensitivities aren’t just about the food.

In college, I started reacting to eggs almost immediately, so I did what most people would do: I assumed eggs were the problem.

I cut them out, avoided them for over a year, and really believed that was the answer.

But looking back, it wasn’t just about the eggs.

Sometimes the reaction is real, but the food isn’t the full story. A lot of the time, the body—especially the immune system—is responding to something deeper going on underneath the surface.

If the gut is compromised, if there’s increased permeability, if the immune system is already under stress or on high alert, it can start flagging foods like they’re a threat.

That doesn’t mean the symptoms aren’t real.
It means we have to ask a better question:

Why is the body reacting in the first place?

For me, the bigger issue was the state my body was in. Stress, deeper root causes, and a system that needed more support.

This is why I care so much about root cause healing. Because sometimes it’s not just about removing the food. It’s about understanding why the body became reactive to begin with.

Important note: if you have severe, immediate, or allergy-type reactions to foods, this is something to work through with a qualified practitioner. This is not about ignoring symptoms or trying to reintroduce foods on your own.

Its been a journey. I dedicated the last year to learning more about myself, spending more time alone + really getting clear on how I want to feel in this life.

These are just a handful of the things that have helped me come back into my body.

For a long time I used to view healing from a lens of looking outside of myself to find answers - more info, more supplements, moremoremore.

But what actually helped my nervous system shift were the much similar things.

I used to think every “tight jeans” moment meant I needed to tighten control.

When in reality, it could have been:
• I ate later than usual
• my cycle was shifting
• I was dehydrated
• I was stressed
• I hadn’t slept well
• I was under a lot of pressure

And tomorrow might feel completely different.

Your body’s primary job is not to make you smaller. It’s to keep you alive.

When you restrict food, your system doesn’t interpret that as “discipline” - it interprets it as stress.

And when stress increases:
• metabolism adapts
• hunger signals rise
• cravings intensify
• the body becomes more efficient at conserving energy

We’ve been taught to fight our physiology but chronic restriction is a stress pattern. And when the body feels stressed, the nervous system responds by holding on tighter.

Not because you “failed.” But because it’s protective. And thank goshhh our bodies respond in this way + love us enough to keep us safe.
