215 bodies is horrifically, a piece of the genocide long known here in Canada. Acknowledging this is to acknowledge proliferation of shame.
Encouraging more shame will not heal it. We can not go back, we can not change it.
We can acknowledge the intention of a culture inseparable from the land they inhabit.
Making it right means listening to their opinion about the land. After all, the domination that inspired such atrocities, was inherent in taking power over Canadian land and its resources.
Listen... If we as Canadians want to make amends for history, we need to continue to acknowledge wrongs that imposed shame on a culture.
We need to listen and act in favour of the land we now share. Notice where you see Indigenous Canadians still rising. They are still speaking against the damage of their mother, the land, our earth. They still hold strong voices, culture inseparable from the land they inhabit.
Shame was the bypass used to create genocide. Make no mistake shame is not the way out. If you were not part of the atrocities, adopting the shame of it, will hinder your ability to move forward against it. From shame you must move forward with aggression. You can’t heal shame with more shame. Instead, we can acknowledge a wrong. We can take action to restore their Nobel intention. We can behave as though we are inseparable from the land that we as Canadians inhabit.
