We had an amazing in-service with OssKins where we learned about their knee brace and the WHY behind the design. The OssKins brace takes into account the Screw Home Mechanism in the knee joint, which most other braces do not.

The basics behind this mechanism: As the knee extends (straightens out), the femur (thigh bone) rotates slightly relative to the tibia (shin bone). This rotation is due to the shape of the joint surfaces and the way the ligaments are arranged. And while most braces only take into account the hinging, the OssKins brace uses advanced technology to take into account the rotational movement as well.

Brace Description:
• Use of state-of-the-art proprietary technology and 3D manufacturing allows for a device that fits perfectly on any body type and increase patient compliance
• Lightweight (9oz) and low-profile design allows for comfortable all-day wear underneath clothing and prevents orthosis migration
• Additive manufacturing of orthosis allows a fortified frame design as well as required mechanical properties in order to optimize rigidity and elasticity
• Patented 3D asymmetric joints reproduce the natural tridimensional kinematics of the knee that replicates internal and external rotation, abduction and adduction as well as anteroposterior and vertical displacements of the knee
• Fluid motion of the knee reduces strain on other joints

Meet Carly Peterson, our newest physiotherapist!

Carly is from Hood River, Oregon and has been calling Vancouver home for the last 11 years. She completed her Master of Physical Therapy at UBC, and uses a mix of manual therapy, exercise prescription, and education to help her clients become more durable, resilient, and confident.

Carly enjoys treating orthopaedic injuries, and especially likes working with distance runners of all levels. She has a special interest in relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S).

Outside the clinic, Carly spends her time trail running, backcountry skiing, gravel cycling, and sewing custom outdoor gear.
