During the holiday season, we are continually reminded of the beauty of a loving community, seen in our residents' smiles, shared laughter, and moments of celebration ❤️
This Christmas, we invite you to give the gift of home through our Double Your Impact campaign, ending in just a few weeks. Thanks to The Jim Pattison Foundation, every donation is matched, and your gift goes twice as far in supporting low-income seniors in Vancouver.

It might sound like fiction, but it is thanks to a Lion's Club Mother's Day carnation sale in 1947 that Beulah Garden (BG) Homes has been able to provide affordable housing for older adults for more than 65 years.
BG Homes was founded as a not-for-profit in 1951, having reorganized from the Senior Citizens’ Homes Association Limited (SCHA). The SCHA began as a small group of people concerned about housing options for pensioners and, with the proceeds from that first Mother's Day flower sale, they purchased a city block in Vancouver with the intention of serving seniors in need of low-cost housing. By 1950, the SCHA had built four new duplexes on that city block and brought eight wartime duplexes by barge from Washington to Vancouver.
In subsequent decades, BG Homes, as a partner ministry of the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada, expanded its campus to four residences: the Rupert Residence (1964), the Charles Bentall Residence (1991), the Beechwood Residence (2006), and The Cedars Residence (2007). BG Homes believes in an aging-in-place philosophy, cultivating a campus of care that allows for flexibility as residents’ needs change. Its campus provides independent and assisted-living options for around 300 residents, as well as an adult daycare serving the neighbourhood.
BG Homes champions Christian compassion and as part of its mission, it is in community with three affiliates: Blossoms Charitable Society, BG Cedars Society and BG Aspen Green Society. Blossoms Charitable Society (formerly Beulah Charitable Holdings Society) was created in 2014 to help sustain and foster the BG community, while BG Cedars Society owns and operates The Cedars.
In 2012, BG Aspen Green Society was established to offer an alternative form of affordable housing for adults aged 60+. Aspen Green represents the first life-lease development in the City of Vancouver.
Together, the residents, volunteers, and staff of BG Homes create a dynamic and welcoming campus environment, filled with activities and events such as garden clubs, weekly tea, knitting, carpet bowling, and festive celebrations. And, if you take a leisurely stroll around the campus, you may well see a carnation or two to remind you of how the legacy of BG Homes began.
