Did you know? Nearly 70% of Canada’s nonprofit workforce is made up of women, powering services that strengthen communities across the country.

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the women working across the nonprofit sector—including the many women at Wavefront Centre—whose work helps strengthen communities and advance communication accessibility for people who are Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing.

For more than 115 years, International Women’s Day has championed gender equality. Today, we honour women’s leadership and continue working toward a more inclusive and accessible world.

Earlier this week, Wavefront Centre was happy to connect with Korean-speaking seniors at BrossCare Health in Burnaby, BC for a workshop on hearing health and communication accessibility.

Through Korean-language presentation, we shared information about hearing changes, the importance of regular assessments, and practical strategies to stay connected and confident.

Thank you to the BrossCare team for the warm welcome and for creating space to support the health and well-being of seniors in the community.

: Remember this machine?

As part of our year-long celebration of Wavefront Centre's 70th anniversary, we're sharing photos and stories that highlight the people and moments that built and shaped our journey.

Do you recognize this machine? It's a Teletypewriter (TTY), the device that revolutionized communication for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities. Before texting and smartphones, people used TTY machines to type messages over phone lines, creating independence and connection.

Pictured on the far right is Prime Minister John Diefenbaker, whose presence underscored the importance of TTY technology in advancing communication accessibility across Canada.

Do you remember using a TTY, or have stories about how this technology changed your life? We'd love to hear from you. Please like, comment, and share!

But the technology is only as good as the care behind it.

At Wavefront Centre for Communication Accessibility, expert fitting, follow-up, and education are part of every hearing aid journey.

Our Story

Wavefront Centre is unique because we are the only organization in B.C. that houses resources to assist with every aspect of a person’s life under one roof. These resources include audiology services, interpreting services, employment counselling services, job finding clubs, a job resource centre, a seniors outreach program, a communication devices showroom, informative classes, and community presentations. Wavefront Centre proudly believes in serving the community as a non-profit organization. This means that any money we earn from our social enterprises, such as our hearing aid clinic, goes back into the community to provide free programs. With nearly six decades of experience, Wavefront Centre serves almost 12,000 Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals every year. We have enjoyed a proven track record of success and thousands of clients who have benefited from our services. No other agency meets the needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing British Columbians like we do.
