Sample Hekate Invocation Script
Here’s a sample invocation script for honoring Hekate, drawing from traditional Hellenic and modern pagan practices. This can be adapted for your cemetery ritual or any liminal space. Remember, invocations are personal—speak from the heart, and always approach with respect. Use this during the setup phase after preparing your spot, ideally at dusk or during the dark moon phase for her associations with the night and underworld.
Perform this standing or kneeling at your temporary altar, facing a crossroads if possible. Light a candle (safely, or visualize if fire isn’t allowed), hold a key or torch symbol, and speak clearly but softly.
Opening Grounding
(Close your eyes, take three deep breaths, and visualize roots extending from your feet into the earth, connecting you to the underworld.)
“I ground myself in this sacred space, between worlds, where the veil is thin. I call upon the elements: Earth to hold me, Air to inspire me, Fire to illuminate me, Water to flow through me, and Spirit to guide me.”
Invocation Proper
(Extend your arms or hold your offering—such as honey, garlic, or an egg—toward the altar.)
“Hekate! Triple Goddess of the Crossroads,
Queen of Witches, Torchbearer in the Dark!
Hekate Enodia, who walks the paths unseen,
Hekate Khthonia, mistress of the earth and shades below,
Hekate Propylaia, guardian of gates and thresholds!
I call to you from this liminal realm,
Where the living meet the dead, and shadows dance.
With keys in hand, unlock the mysteries for me,
Guide my steps through uncertainty and night.
Accept this offering [name your gift, e.g., ‘this honey poured upon the ground’]
As a token of my devotion and seeking heart.
Hekate Trivia, she of three faces—Maiden, Mother, Crone—
Reveal your wisdom, protect me from harm,
And empower my workings in your name.
So mote it be! Hail Hekate!”
Closing and Thanks
(Pause for a moment of silence to listen for any intuitive responses or signs. Then, extinguish any flames safely.)
“I thank you, Hekate, for your presence and blessings.
May your light linger as I depart this space.
As I came in peace, so I leave in peace.
Blessed be.”
Tips for Use
• Customization: Swap in personal intentions, like “Grant me clarity in [specific issue]” after the epithets.
• Pronunciation: Hekate is often “HEH-kah-tee” or “heh-KAH-tay.” Epithets: Enodia (eh-NOH-dee-ah), Khthonia (KTHOH-nee-ah), Propylaia (proh-pih-LYE-ah), Trivia (TRIH-vee-ah).
• Safety and Ethics: If in a cemetery, keep your voice low to avoid disturbing others. End by cleaning up completely.
• Enhancements: Chant her name three times before starting, or incorporate drumming/movement if it feels right.
