My neighbour had her beautiful little boy a couple of days ago.

Yesterday, I made her a red lentil soup to help strengthen her body as she recovers from her birthing experience. Homemade chai tea to help with lactation. And some Irish Sea-moss to replenish her body of all the minerals lost during labour.

Hack of the Day:

Today I got inspired to post this hack from a lovely conversation I had with a mama who has welcomed her second little one and has a busy toddler at home too along with my own plan of food prepping for my household.

I find this hack helps to make dinners, lunches for older children in the home and snacks earlier and more manageable for a new mom/parent.

Pick a day out of the week, and sometimes month, preferably when your partner or a friend/family member can be with you to either help or watch the kids for you.

💕 Buy a set of meats, poultry, fish. Portion it all out into various bowls and season them in different ways. Put into a labelled freezer bag with the date. Then take a bag out the night before and by the next day when it’s time to cook dinner, it’s oven ready or pan ready and you just have to add some sides. Pictured I did Cajun chicken, MTL bbq chicken, and a chicken souvlaki marinate.

💕 Buy some freezer friendly veggies, spring rolls, chicken fingers etc. Portion them out for yourself, your partner, or your child(ren). That way when it’s lunch time, you take it out pop it in the oven/Air-Fryer/microwave. This is perfect for your older child(ten) in the home. Pictured I did plant-based chicken fingers, veggie spring rolls with the plum sauce packets (and I have falafels not pictured).

💕 Next, buy a set of fruits and veggies. Soak them in a baking soda solution for 10 minutes. Thoroughly rinse and either air dry or use a salad spinner to dry them. Store in a large mason jar ( my new obsession). Your fruits and veggies stay fresh way longer. They are ready to eat making snacks and getting older child(ten)’s snacks ready for school a million times easier. Pictured I have mini cucumber, baby carrots, blueberries, and grapes.

Guyanese Kitchri

This is such a hearty, healthy, aromatic meal that is perfect for a new mama.

I LOVE how there are so many of my cultural dishes that make some of the best postpartum meals.

This dish has beautiful spices that are great for lactation, yellow split peas that make the dish hearty, spinach to help with iron and a few other amazing ingredients.

I’m pleased to say this will be part of my postpartum menu coming soon!

Mom Hack of the week

This week I have had the joy of dealing with my little one having a dual ear infection.

Sometimes when managing your regular daily life, plus a little one being sick, cooking, cleaning, and in our case still having adventures before school starts. Keep track of doses and the number days you have left can get confusing.

This hack has been apart of my routine when someone is on meds for the past few years and it has been such a lifesaver by eliminating one mental load.

Normally I put a big label on the box or bottle and create the same chart but with our in and out over the past 5 days I did my chart on the baggy itself.
