Last night, we had the privilege of attending the Love, Scarborough Innovation Dinner hosted by the Scarborough Health Network Foundation.

It was an incredibly well put together evening that brought together leaders across healthcare, business, and the community, all aligned around one goal, advancing healthcare in Scarborough.

Scarborough Health Network serves one of the most diverse populations in Canada, supporting more than 850,000 residents. Despite this, the region has historically been underfunded relative to its size and needs. The Love, Scarborough campaign is helping change that narrative by driving investment into infrastructure, research, and innovation that will shape the future of care in the community.

What stood out most was the focus on building forward, modern facilities, better access to care, and a system that truly reflects the population it serves.

We also want to acknowledge the Afiya Spine & Pain Institute team, it was great sharing the evening with a group that is equally committed to advancing patient care and clinical excellence.

At MedPros, we strongly believe that the future of healthcare is built through collaboration, innovation, and the right infrastructure to support both patients and providers.

Thank you to the SHN Foundation for hosting such a meaningful event and bringing together people who are actively shaping the future of healthcare in Ontario.

We’ve been having more and more conversations lately with physicians and investors looking to get into the medical clinic space. The interest is growing—and for good reason.

When structured properly, a clinic that integrates family medicine, pharmacy, and allied health services can become a very strong, scalable business with long-term stability. It’s not just about opening a clinic anymore. It’s about building a complete healthcare ecosystem that works clinically and financially.

That said, most people underestimate how many moving parts are involved.

Location selection, physician recruitment, pharmacy integration, construction planning, staffing, billing optimization… every decision early on has a direct impact on long-term success.

We put together a detailed guide breaking down exactly how to approach this the right way—from both a business and operational perspective.

How much can a family physician actually earn in Ontario? The answer isn’t as straightforward as most people think.

Income can vary significantly depending on:

- the model you’re in (FHO, FHG, FFS)
- how many patients you see
- how efficiently you bill
- and how well your clinic is run

We’ve seen physicians in similar environments have very different outcomes simply based on these factors.

Understanding how OHIP works, how overhead impacts your net income, and how billing plays a role can make a meaningful difference over time.

We put together a breakdown covering how physician income actually works in Ontario:

Healthcare construction is not the same as typical commercial construction.

We’ve seen it firsthand across clinics, pharmacies, diagnostic imaging centres, and specialty buildouts — small mistakes early in the process can lead to major delays, failed inspections, and costly rework.

The reality is: Each type of healthcare facility in Ontario has its own requirements, workflows, and considerations. What works for a standard medical clinic will not work for a compounding pharmacy or an imaging facility. If you’re planning a new healthcare space or renovation, it’s important to understand what actually goes into doing it properly.

Buying a healthcare business in Ontario can be a great opportunity, but not all businesses are what they appear on the surface.

We’ve seen deals that look strong initially, but fall apart once you dig deeper into:

- Owner dependence
- Financial clarity
- Lease structure
- Transferability of the business

In healthcare, you’re not just buying revenue, you’re buying how sustainable that revenue is after transition.

In many cases, buying an existing business can be a faster and more stable path than starting from scratch, but only if you evaluate it properly.

We put together a guide outlining what buyers should actually look for before moving forward.

One of the most common questions we get from healthcare business owners is:

“What is my business actually worth?”

The reality is — valuation in healthcare is not just about revenue.

It comes down to a combination of factors:

- Financial performance and true earnings
- How dependent the business is on the owner
- Whether the operation is transferable
- Lease strength and location
- Buyer restrictions in regulated sectors

Two businesses with similar numbers can have very different values depending on how they’re structured.

Understanding this early can make a significant difference in how you approach a potential sale.

We put together a guide breaking down what really drives valuation in Ontario healthcare businesses.

Selling a healthcare business in Ontario is very different from selling a typical business.

It’s not just about finding a buyer: it involves understanding valuation, ownership restrictions, confidentiality, and how transferable the business actually is.

We often see owners make the same mistakes:
* Listing publicly and exposing the business too early
* Mispricing the business
* Underestimating how limited and specialized the buyer pool really is

In healthcare, the process needs to be controlled, private, and strategic.

Whether it’s a pharmacy, diagnostic imaging clinic, dental practice, or rehab clinic; each comes with its own nuances that can significantly impact the outcome.

We put together a guide outlining what owners should consider before starting the process.

We’re seeing a growing number of UK physicians exploring opportunities in Ontario; and for good reason.

Between higher earning potential, more flexibility in how you structure your practice, and strong patient demand, Ontario can be a very attractive option.

That said, the transition isn’t just about licensing.

It involves understanding a new system, choosing the right clinic, setting up billing properly, and making sure both you and your family are set up for a smooth move.

We put together a complete guide covering what UK doctors should know before making the move: from NHS vs OHIP differences to clinic selection, relocation, and getting started: https://www.medpros.ca/blog/uk-doctors-moving-to-ontario/

FHO+ is here — and it brings some of the most meaningful changes to Ontario primary care in years.

Starting April 1, 2026, the updated agreement introduces major shifts in how family physicians are paid, how care is measured, and how groups operate.

We broke it all down here:
https://www.medpros.ca/blog/fho-plus-ontario-physicians-2026/

Here are a few high-impact takeaways:

• After-hours premiums increase to 50%, with meaningful upside for groups that optimize access
• Shadow billing increases (up to 30% for in-basket services and ~50% for many procedures)
• New continuity of care (COC) threshold (75%) — with potential capitation penalties if missed
• Time-based billing caps introduced (daily + monthly), including limits on indirect/admin time
• Patient attachment bonuses return (retroactive to July 2025)
• Leadership funding increases — up to ~$125K per group annually
• Hospital care for rostered patients now paid at 100% (not shadow billed)
• FFS cap remains — and continues to apply at the group level

Bottom line:
This is not just a fee update, it’s a structural shift in how FHO practices will need to operate, track performance, and optimize revenue.

If you’re in an FHO (or considering it), understanding these changes early will matter.

Curious how this impacts your billing or group strategy? Let’s connect.

The new FHO+ agreement takes effect April 1, 2026. Learn the key changes impacting Ontario physicians, including billing, continuity rules, time caps, and income.

Choosing between FHG, FHO, and FHO+ isn’t just about income — it’s about how you want to practice medicine.

We’re having more and more conversations with physicians trying to figure out:

* What model actually fits their workflow
* What kind of schedule they want long-term
* And how the newer FHO+ changes will impact things

So we put together a clear, practical comparison — focused on real-world practice, not theory.

Opening a medical clinic in Ontario can be a great opportunity — but it’s often more complex than people expect.

It’s not just about securing a space and hiring physicians. The success of a clinic depends on getting the fundamentals right from the start:

• location and patient demand
• clinic design and workflow
• staffing and training
• equipment and setup
• choosing the right primary care model
• billing and revenue management

We recently put together a complete guide that walks through what actually goes into opening a clinic — from setup to long-term success.

From radiation shielding and room design to XRIS registration, leakage testing, and HARP compliance, the construction phase plays a major role in whether a clinic can successfully pass inspection and begin operating.
