September 30 marks the National Day for . It is a time to reflect on the enduring impacts of the Residential School system, to honour the strength and resilience of survivors, their families, and communities, and to remember the children who never came home.
We remain committed to the ongoing process of truth and reconciliation with the Indigenous peoples of Ontario every day of the year. We continue to work directly with First Nations, Inuit, Métis and urban Indigenous partners on the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of Indigenous centred initiatives.
As part of this commitment, we encourage everyone working in health care to consider taking Ontario Healthâs Indigenous Relationship and Cultural Awareness training. These courses explore the impact of colonialism, broader social determinants of health, current political realities and persistent racism on the health of First Nations, Inuit, MĂ©tis and urban Indigenous people. They also promote greater awareness of First Nation, Inuit and MĂ©tis history, culture and knowledge and highlight their influence of the health and wellness of the community.
