First major snowfall for the season! ❄️🇨🇦❄️🇨🇦

At we treat many common injuries related to snow shovelling or fall leaves cleanup. However, we believe prevention is key. So here are some tips for safe snow shovelling and preventing injuries...

Before you start:
1. Wear proper clothing
2. Stretch and warm up

Ergonomic lifting technique:
* Always face the object that you will lift. Have your hips and shoulders both squarely facing it.
* Bend at the hips and push your chest out, then bend your knees and lift with your legs while keeping your back straight.
* If you need to lift a shovel full of snow, grip the handle with one hand, and the other must be as close to the blade as possible. Keep your hands approximately 12 inches apart to achieve greater stability and minimize the risk of injuring your low back.
* Keep the load as close to your body and avoid extending your arms when tossing the snow.
* Avoid twisting your back and always pivot your entire body when facing a new direction.
* Know your limit and if you experience pain or discomfort, stop immediately because the task may be too tough for you to deal with on your own.

Remember to stay hydrated and it’s okay to split the job into multiple parts.

Ask one of our therapists about lifting techniques and how to prepare and condition your body for these tasks!

It has always been our mission to educate and help our patients and clients learn why they are in pain or what movements are in need of changing or adjusting to fix the issue at hand. Whether it’s to rehab an injury or improve performance for activities, asking and learning what the cause is and what structures are involved have continued to be our priority.
Even during these times of we are helping and showing patients their problems and body structures and movements in a different way. By using AR, screen sharing and anatomy software, we have been able show patients in real time, during our sessions to understand the cause of problems.

Stuff or swollen ankles the size of a tennis ball?

You may have damaged a commonly injured ligament called the Anterior Talo Fibular Ligament also known as your ATFL.

This ligament can get injured from rolling, twisting or turning
your ankle in an unnatural way, leaving it untreated can cause
persistent soreness and stiffness.

Self Treatment Tip: Try R.I.C.E. (Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate) to help reduce the pain and swelling. Once the pain and swelling has reduced, try strengthening and stretching exercises to further promote healing.

We want to help you cure it correctly. Talk to one of our
experts today over a free phone call, DM or a 15-minute in-person consultation today.
