The ADHD brain is low on dopamine (the "this matters" signal) which makes it HARD for ADHDers to do tasks that are boring/uninteresting.

We can certainly hyperfocus when we are interested enough!

So it isn't that we are lazy or stupid...

We just need to be creative to boost our dopamine so we can also do the boring parts of life. πŸ˜…

Helpful strategies include...
⭐ Making our environment more enjoyable
⭐ External accountability
⭐ Body doubling (doing a task with someone else present either virtually or in-person)
⭐ Immediate reward systems (like reward jars, treats, and crossing items off lists)
⭐ Baby steps (feeling accomplishment quicker and more frequently)
⭐ Movement (especially intense exercise, but really any kind of physical movement. I like Pilates and going for walks... Movement gives us natural dopamine and can help us stay focused)

Happy National Indigenous Peoples Day!! πŸͺΆ

It is such a blessing to live, play, and work on this land. And it was at the expense of many First Nations, MΓ©tis, and Inuit families' well-being, culture, and livelihood that we were able to come here in the way that our settler ancestors did.

We can't change the past, but we can change the future of the Indigenous peoples who are struggling. Do your part to understand why so many Indigenous peoples in Canada are struggling.

Understanding the historical harms done and the intergenerational trauma that resulted is the first step.

Then, do your best to spread that knowledge and support Indigenous peoples the best you can. This responsibility to reconcile (repair the relationships with Indigenous peoples) applies to every non-Indigneous citizen in Canada.

Also, the song in this post was created by Indigenous youth in BC due to the opportunity of a super cool organization called N'we Jinan that supports Indigneous youth to create music!! Check it out: https://share.google/JpWOHmabgNmOLhHpd

I just found this artist/group/organization today in my efforts to learn more about and honour Indigenous peoples in British Columbia, Canada/Turtle Island where I live. 🧑πŸͺΆ

I am very excited to share that I will be co-facilitating a workshop series for women with ADHD (and women who are supporting another participant who has or believes they have ADHD). Please note that participants do not require a diagnosis of ADHD in order to participate. Participants may either identify with ADHD in some way or be there to support another participant who identifies with ADHD.

Identifying with ADHD may include querying ADHD for oneself, believing oneself has ADHD (without having a diagnosis), or actually having an official ADHD diagnosis.

The only criteria for this event are identifying as a woman and being 19 years of age or older.

This workshop series will take place April 5th-7th, 2024 in Lake Country, BC. Participants will receive the address and other necessary details once their registration is confirmed.

The cost of this workshop series is $350 per participant which includes three days of workshops (each day including a 45-minute yoga class), a catered Lunch on Saturday, snacks and refreshments each day, and a custom T-shirt for the event!

For participants who have benefits coverage for Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCC) and who attend all three days may be able to claim the full amount of the workshop series through their benefits provider. If they do not attend all three days, participants may be able to receive partial reimbursement from their benefits provider.

2024. A New Year. πŸŽ‰

How are you going to inspire yourself to become a healthier, better version of you? πŸ’–

Many people make unrealistic goals, don't track their goals, forget about their goals, or make too many goals. πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ

πŸ‘‰ Don't set yourself up for failure. What mindset shift can you adopt to start making small, consistent changes in your daily life? ✨️

As I embark on a new year, I am setting a new customized background on my phone to remind me of my goal to be healthier.

I purposefully included pictures that truly represent the habits I want to cultivate.

I aspire to never be someone who makes "bad" goals or who doesn't follow through on goals I set. I deserve better than that. And so do you. πŸ₯°
...

"In a 2014 report, 35% of participants who failed their New Year's Resolutions admitted they had unrealistic goals, 33% of participants did not keep track of their progress, and 23% forgot about them; the remaining respondents claimed they made too many resolutions." (Wikipedia, 2024)
