Congratulations, you did it! You completed a 9-day liver cleanse. Now it's important to transition out of it gently.

Transition After a Cleanse

First day:                              Begin with Liver Rescue Morning. Avoid radical fats. Focus on fruit and vegetables.

Second day:                         Begin again with Liver Rescue Morning. You can reintroduce radical fats later in the day; limit to one serving.

Third day and beyond:      Continue with Liver Care Basics as outlined below. Adopt anything that you enjoyed in the 9 Day Cleanse into your days, such as the snacks, or the Hands-on Liver Flush.

Liver Care Basics

How we care for our livers determines our health, aging process, and much of our well-being physically, mentally and emotionally. The liver can renew itself with proper care.

1.   Liver Rescue Morning

·       Drink  500 ml (16 OZ) of water with a half (or whole depending on the size) of lime or lemon squeezed in, to hydrate well  first thing upon awakening. Wait for 20 minutes before eating or drinking anything else.

·       Consider having also 500 ml of celery juice every morning, wait 20 minutes before drinking or eating.

·       For breakfast eat a lot of fruit, and avoid all radical fats, such as nuts, seeds, nut butters, almond, coconut, soy and other milk, eggs, yogurt, cheese, all meat, avocado.

·       Granola or porridge such as oatmeal is okay, without nuts and seeds (these are fats) and without any kind of milk (fat again) –try with applesauce.

·       All fruit and berry smoothies are great (again no milk.)

·       Also avoid protein powders. They often contain flavors and/or fats.

2. Other Important Considerations

·       Wait till dinner to eat fats, if you can, or at least until lunch.

·       Eat plenty of “Critical Clean Carbohydrates” – CCC, such as all fruit, all potatoes (white, yellow, red, sweet), yams, squash, pumpkin. All these feed our liver with glucose.

·       Minimize radical fats (whether considered good or bad ones) in your diet.

·       Avoid: eggs, dairy (milk, butter, cheese, yogurt etc), gluten containing grains, pork,farmed fish, corn, soy, canola oil, artificial and ‘natural’ flavors.

Day 9 of Medical Medium Original 3-6-9 Liver Cleanse - juicing day. I love this one. It's now that the liver really gets a chance to let go of the toxins that we were helping it to prepare to let go in previous days.

Consider taking Day 9 as a ‘sacred day of rest’ where you don’t have to do too much or run around, or rest at least part of the day.

The blend of celery, cucumber and apple juices has the right balance of mineral salts, potassium and natural sugar, to stabilize your glucose levels as your body cleanses itself of toxins. This safeguards your adrenals.

 Talk to your liver letting it know that you will be taking care of it from now on, and use the Hands-on Liver Flushing technique: rest your hand gently on the liver (right hand side of your upper abdomen).  You could visualize healing light from your hand going to your liver.

Liver Cleanse - Day 9

Upon waking:        16 ounces lemon or lime water

Over the course of the day consume:            
                                  Two 16- to 20-ounce celery juices (one morning, one early evening)
                                  Two 16- to 20-ounce cucumber-apple juices (anytime)

                                  Fresh-squeezed orange juice, or blended melon or papaya as much as you like
                                  Water with optional lemon or lime in it (sip at least 8 ounces in between drinking the juices)

Evening:                  16 ounces of lemon or lime water, hibiscus or lemon balm tea

Day 8 your liver will continue to release deeper layers of toxins. But you should be feeling only mild cleanse symptoms, if any, because we are supporting the liver with critical clean carbohydrates (berries and fruit) the whole time, and not forcing it to cleanse too fast. We are gearing up now for day 9 which will be a juicing day, and the grand finale of this cleanse.

Guidelines for days 7 to 9

·       Continue to avoid radical fats entirely (nuts, seeds, oils, coconut, meat, eggs, dairy, olives, avocado)

·       Stick to the foods outlined below, avoid salt, eat or drink as much as you need to feel full

Liver Cleanse - Day 8

Upon waking:        16 ounces lemon or lime water

Morning:                 16 ounces of celery juice, Liver Rescue Smoothie

Lunchtime:             Spinach soup over cucumber noodles

Mid-afternoon:     16 ounces of celery juice, at least two apples (or two servings of applesauce) plus celery sticks and cucumber slices

Dinnertime:            Steamed asparagus and Brussels sprouts plus optional Liver Rescue Salad

Evening:                  Apple (if desired), 16 ounces of lemon or lime water, hibiscus or lemon balm tea

Here we are: the moment your liver has been waiting for! And because the liver determines how we feel, it's the moment you've been waiting for too! When the liver unburdens itself at this stage, you'll be amazed at the positive influence it will have on your body, and your mood.

Days 7 - 9 we add another 16 ounces of celery juice in the afternoon. Days 7 & 8 we have spinach soup at lunch time. Day 7 we get to enjoy some potatoes, yams or squash at dinner.

Guidelines for days 7 to 9

·       Continue to avoid dalt. and radical fats entirely (nuts, seeds, oils, coconut, meat, eggs, dairy, olives, avocado)

·       Stick to the foods outlined below, avoid salt, eat or drink as much as you need to feel full

Liver Cleanse - Day 7

Upon waking:       16 ounces lemon or lime water

Morning:                16 ounces of celery juice, Liver Rescue Smoothie

Lunchtime:             Spinach soup (recipe below) over cucumber noodles

Mid-afternoon:     16 ounces of celery juice, at least two apples (or two servings of applesauce) plus celery sticks and cucumber slices

Dinnertime:            Steamed potatoes, sweet potatoes, or squash with steamed asparagus and/or Brussels sprouts plus optional Liver Rescue Salad

Evening:                  Apple (if desired), 16 ounces of lemon or lime water, hibiscus or lemon balm tea. 

Raw Spinach Soup

1 ½ cups tomatoes

1 stalk celery

1 garlic clove

1 orange

4 cups baby spinach

Blend the tomatoes, celery, and garlic with the juice of 1 orange until smooth. Add the spinach by the handful until completely incorporated.

Day 6 we continue with celery juice, and stick to veggies, fruit and berries. Your liver is thanking you for the break that you're giving it, to finally release toxins that it has had to hold onto for so long. 

You can do this! We're two thirds into the 9-day cleanse already. Message me if you need any support!

Guidelines for days 4 to 6

·       Stick to the foods outlined below. Avoid salt

·       Avoid all radical fats entirely (nuts, seeds, oils, coconut, meat, eggs, dairy, olives, avocado)

·       Eat as much as you need to feel full

Day 5 we continue fat-free and salt-free, enjoying only veggies, fruits and berries. The red berries and fruits are supporting the liver, while we are gently cleansing trouble makers that leave us feeling sluggish, especially after the winter. Celery juice is giving a powerful boost to the cleanse.

Please see recipes for Liver Rescue Smoothie and Liver Rescue Salad in the Day 4 post. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Guidelines for days 4 to 6

·       Stick to the foods outlined below. Avoid salt

Today we add celery juice in the morning, and the liver rescue smoothine. See recipes below the smoothie, and the liver rescue salad and dressing. We also avoid all radical fats and salt entirely now. This will accelerate the cleanse. For lunch and dinner we have asparagus which assists the cleansing action.

Guidelines for days 4 to 6

·       Stick to the foods outlined below. Avoid salt

·       Avoid all radical fats entirely (nuts, seeds, oils, coconut, meat, eggs, dairy, olives, avocado)

·       Eat as much as you need to feel full

Liver Cleanse - Day  4

Upon waking:        16 ounces lemon or lime water

Mid-afternoon:     At least two apples (or two servings of applesauce) with one to four dates + celery sticks

Dinnertime:            Steamed asparagus with Liver Rescue Salad

Evening:                  Apple (if desired), 16 ounces of lemon or lime water, hibiscus or lemon balm tea

     Liver Rescue Smoothie

2 bananas or ½  Maradol papaya, cubed

½ cup of fresh or frozen , or 2 tablespoons of powdered red pitaya (dragon fruit) or substitute dark pitted cherries and/or blackberries

 2 cups fresh or frozen wild blueberries
 
Combine all ingredients in blender. Blend until smooth. Add ½ cup water if needed.

     Liver Rescue Salad

Chopped tomatoes

Sliced cucumber

Chopped celery

Chopped cilantro and/or parsley

 Chopped green onion (optional)

Any variety of leafy greens (spinach, arugula, lettuce etc.)

Orange “Vinaigrette” Dressing for the Salad

1 cup orange juice

1 garlic clove or some fresh ginger root

1 tablespoons of raw honey

1/4 cup water

optional: 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne

Combine all ingredients in blender. Blend until smooth.

· If you eat meat, stick to one serving per day, eaten only at dinner

· Focus on bringing in more fruits, vegetables and leafy greens every day

· Substitutions of afternoon dates: mulberries (dried or fresh), raisins, grapes or figs (dried or fresh)

· Minimize or avoid salt entirely.
