Did you know that 1 in 4 children has a vision problem that can affect learning, reading, and confidence in school? Many children don’t realize their vision isn’t clear — that’s why regular eye exams are so important.
Meet Opie, the friendly mascot for BC Doctors of Optometry 💙
Opie helps remind families that healthy eyes help kids see, learn, and thrive!
👓 Why children’s eye exams are important:
• Vision can change quickly as kids grow
• Eye exams can detect issues early — even before symptoms appear
• Good vision supports reading, learning, and classroom success
💡 Good news for parents!
MSP covers annual eye exams for children under 19 in BC, making it easy to stay on top of your child’s eye health.
📅 When should kids have their eyes checked?
Children can have their first eye exam as early as 6 months, and should continue with eye exams every year as they grow to make sure their vision is developing properly.
