How high do you have to go to find your inner calm?

Some of us need the hard work out, the 10k run, to stand on top of a mountain peek, to be on stage with thousands of people watching…. To feel At Home.

But can you find that sense of coziness without the rush of adrenaline, the sweaty effort, or the risky behaviour?

Can you find pleasure in simple daily tasks? #

Physical clutter acts as a silent “to-do list” for your brain.

I underestimated how much of a difference renovating our kitchen would make. Swipe right to see the before photo.

Maximizing storage in a small galley kitchen gave everything a “home” which has equated to clear counters and unexpectedly, spacious minds.

Perhaps you are a rare bird that can operate in chaos, but most of us find more calm in clear spaces.

This is why my current MO includes 10 minutes in the morning and evening dedicated to putting physical objects back in their homes (out of sight). While a daunting task in the moment, I am always grateful for the peace it provides supporting me to be more mindful.

With a clear space around me, I can focus my attention on what matters most- my people, my passions, my work, my future plans…..

Does your physical space impact your mindfulness?

I hate when hair ties break. Especially while running.

What a discrepancy between my desires and my actions:

I yearn to be wild and free.

But I cannot run without a hair tie in. ….

Do I really want to be wild and free? Perhaps I actually want stability and order? Or are my habits holding me back? Lots to unpack.

What discrepancies do you see in your own life?

Are your actions inline with how you yearn to live?

Is it time to stop thinking of moving, and finally get out the door?

Space.

Using movement to help people find space, space in their joints, space in their muscles, space in their minds, space in their emotions.

Finding the right space to help others make space, has been a practice of patience.

I’ve learned that if it’s not a definite yes, it’s a no. I’ve toured so many places that didn’t fit the bill. No natural light, too small, not accessible, difficult parking, too noisy.

When I walked into DrawHeart. It was a definite YES!

Bright, spacious, quiet + accessible.

My table has found its current home.

The pause.

What you practice grows.

So much of society praises grit, determination, and immediacy.

But would you truly choose to spend your days (or life) immersed in that energy?

It’s unnatural, inhumane and exhausting.

What you practice grows.

The movement I teach, encourages you to feel, explore, and engage with intention.

The pause we practice blossoms into the habit of being in the here and now.

Aware. Attentive. Awake.

I am excited to announce that I now have in-person availability at dRAW hEART in Victoria.

PM to book.

What meaning is attached to your beloved items?

My last post about my daughter’s Birks inspired many folks to send me messages about their own love affairs with their own Birks. Thank you for sharing! ❤️❤️

It got me wondering, is the attachment for the shoe itself or for what they represent?

I have my own Birk’s and when I slide them on I know that I’m rolling slowly, not in a rush. I am choosing comfort over style. I will be stationary more than moving. To me Birk’s symbolize SLOW.

Another item that reflects my passion for pace is my morning coffee mug. Again, it symbolizes a change of pace, a purposeful pause, an intentional softness. When my lips meet the soft edges of this mug my whole system knows I have time (as opposed to the sharp, steel edges of my travel thermos which symbolizes hurry!!!).

These came into our life second hand, were cherished and then slowly ground into a literal pulp.

So we bought new ones. Yet the emotional attachment to these has made discarding them oh so hard. A literal battle.

Is this hoarding? Object attachment? Frugality?

Pathologizing aside, what is most interesting to me is connecting these themes that show up today for us (or our children) and connecting them to generational patterns in our parents, or their parents… and so on.

Does she need to keep these shoes? Or is this a deeply rooted pattern of hoarding connected to our Chinese ancestors who watched the communist party take everyone’s belongings? Or scarcity from ancestral experience of the Irish famine? Or…?

Who are you?

What parts of you consciously support the life you want? And what parts are connected to historical experiences that can make peace with and discard?

How much of how you do you is conscious and by choice? ….. and how much is unconscious, wired into you through genetics, symbols, nonverbal messages, trauma, experience… ?

Follow along for more insight on making the unconscious conscious.

Last week this beautiful mother’s life was tragically stolen in a senseless case of IPV. She leaves behind 2 beautiful girls who need our help. Please consider donating via the link.

I had the pleasure of meeting Laura through my youngest child. While I did not know her well, in all of our interactions I walked away absolutely inspired. She radiated positivity, composure, and confidence.

My heart aches for Laura, her daughters, her family and loved ones. RIP ❤️❤️❤️

Yesterday was hard for many reasons.

When days are hard, instead of pushing back, I’ve learned to soften.

Instead of a run, a workout, any more adrenaline added to an already vibrating system…. I did a gentle movement lesson to settle my nerves, smooth the jitters, and to reconnect my mind and body to the safe sensation of home. Somatic flexibility.

We have one home for life, nourish it.

What do you do to nourish yourself when life feels heavy?

How do you celebrate?

Today I am celebrating completing a term where I saddistically decided to double up on courses. Just three more courses + practicum ahead…. Much more than halfway done.

So I celebrated.

With a solo run in the forest.

Movement is a treat I look forward to. Something I love and appreciate. Something that at times I must deny myself to tackle less-enjoyable adult tasks. It makes me feel happy, fulfilled, energized, and grounded.

At times people have said to me they envied my love of exercise, they need motivation or someone to push them out the door. They loathe movement and consider it a chore.

Mindset is everything. If you want to move more, find movement you love. Explore different activities until you find the one that hits the spot. Or mix it up and dabble. Find movement makes your heart swoon. And label it a luxurious treat.

Look forward to it.
Savour it.
Reflect upon it lovingly.

Stop saying “I have to”, start thinking “I want to”….

Mindful walks in atmospheric rivers?

Why not?!

Mother Nature once again is forcing us to slow down.

Less Cars on the road, kids off the soccer fields, shopping days delayed…. Time to stop doing and just be.

Despite wet legs and soggy socks, the rhythmic pattern of the rain and glowing foliage help slow the breath and brain.
