Neglecting your mental/emotional health on a quest to improve your gut health will almost inevitably lead to the āyo-yoā effect. The up & down effect where things get better & then they get worse again.
That diet you did, that food (or multiple foods) youāve eliminated, that SIBO protocol you followed, that supplement or medication you tookā¦.MIGHT get you short term improvements. But it wonāt last if youāve got underlying stress, chronic anxiety, etc that havenāt been addressed.
Most patients donāt want to hear this. Most of us want a magic cure, a supplement we can take, a food we can blame. And this might be part of the solution, but itās unlikely to be the final hoorah treatment that ācuresā you.
The brain profoundly influences the gut by impacting the health of our microbiome, to inducing changes in motility, to modulating inflammation & our immune system, etc. Itās effects cannot be ignored.
So, if itās something youāve been neglecting it might be time to invest . There are many ways to do thisā¦but perhaps start smallā¦commit to a 5-10 mindfulness exercise each day. This could be meditation, breathwork, mindful eating, forest bathing, diaphragmatic breathing etc. Make it a daily ritual. Itās not what you do some of the time that counts, ITāS WHAT YOU DO MOST OF THE TIME. šā¤ļø
