"I honestly couldn’t believe what I was seeing when I first came across this sign. At first glance, it’s just a standard warning—‘Watch Your Step.’ But then I noticed the symbol of a person in a wheelchair going down a flight of stairs! It’s not just ironic—it’s downright dangerous and thoughtless.

This is a textbook example of poor accessibility design. It’s as if no one stopped to consider how this would be perceived by someone who actually uses a wheelchair—or how incredibly unsafe that situation would be in reality. Signs like this should be helping people, not highlighting a hazard in such an absurd and insensitive way.

We need more accessible design that’s created with people who have disabilities, not just for them. Otherwise, this is what you end up with: a warning sign that unintentionally becomes a warning about ableism and bad design."
